The Dallas Cowboys have had a very productive 2021 season. They did what they were supposed to do which was win the NFC East, and they did so by going a perfect 6-0 in division play. Once the regular season ended, the Cowboys finished with a 12-5 record and the third seed in the NFC. That’s all fine and dandy, but the real season begins now.
Dallas has a plethora of talent on both sides of the ball. Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper, and CeeDee Lamb lead the way on offense while Micah Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, Randy Gregory, and Trevon Diggs spearhead the defense. The Cowboys’ offense finished as the top-ranked unit in terms of points per game and yards, and defensively they were the best in forcing turnovers and stopping offenses on third down.
The firepower is there, but it won’t matter if they come up short in the postseason. The path won’t be easy either as the San Francisco 49ers come into this Sunday’s game against Dallas with the seventh-ranked rushing attack and the third-ranked overall defense. If the Cowboys get by the 49ers, the likely matchup would be a rematch from the season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and then a possible meeting with the top-seeded Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game.
Winning championships should be tough for any football team because it makes the accomplishment of winning it that much sweeter. The Cowboys have had good chances to win titles in recent memory with their 2007, 2014, and 2016 teams that all won a minimum of 12 games. However, none made it past the second round of the playoffs. This 2021 team is arguably the best of them all and the Cowboys have to approach this playoff run with a sense of urgency.
The Cowboys are young and talented and have a chance to be good for a long time. However, it’s not a given that the Cowboys will have this good of an opportunity to win a title going forward with how rosters turn over every season and the COVID factor that doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon which can hobble any team by players being out.
There’s no turning back now and the Cowboys have to seize this big opportunity to win the franchise’s sixth Super Bowl.
