Cowboys OL unit ranked 6th by Pro Football Focus entering 2023

As I looked through the news this week, one of my favorite things to write about dropped.

Pro Football Focus released its 2023 offensive line rankings, and the Dallas Cowboys jumped inside the top 10.

We still have questions about who will start and where, etc., but OTAs and minicamp have helped the coaches see who might be the best starting five.

Training camp is on the horizon, and that will tell a better story before preseason hits.

We heard for awhile that maybe Tyron Smith would start at right tackle while Tyler Smith started at left. However, during mandatory minicamp last week, it was back to normal.

According to Pro Football Focus, Dallas checks in at the 6th best offensive line entering 2023.

They had the same spot a year ago, but injuries derailed them quickly. They get multiple guys back, and it looks really good on paper.

We often say that a lot.

It is a matter of staying healthy and on the field.

A lot of different stories about who the starting five will be, etc. have been put out, but it seems it may be leaning toward the way it should be.

From the sounds lately, Tyron Smith will start at left tackle, Tyler Smith at left guard, Tyler Biadasz at the center, Zack Martin at right guard, and Terence Steele at right tackle.

The Cowboys’ BEST five need to be on the field; suppose the team wants to experament with some things and see how other rotations look fine.

Stephen Jones echoed the same thing a few weeks ago.

“Our top five linemen are our top five linemen,” he said. “We really felt like that if we’re going get your best five guys that have played in this league, that those are your best five. We’ll see what happens from there.”

So Jones, keep it that way.

Again, this all comes back to them staying healthy.

As a rookie last year, Tyler Smith had to step into the left tackle role after Tyron got hurt. With him back, he can return to what he was drafted for.

Steele is recovering from that ACL tear.

The team also added depth by signing Chuma Edoga drafting Asim Richards from North Carolina; and of course, Josh Ball is still around, but I hope we never see him on the field.

I am just not a fan of Ball. The team says he will still get his chances, but that is more of a motivation-type thing. He has had plenty and hasn’t looked good.

It can’t get much more straightforward. This team knows who the best five are.

As mentioned above, anything other than someone dealing with an injury doesn’t make sense.

This might be the best team in the Dak Prescott era. Honestly, it is the best team he has had.

You add address the biggest weaknesses last year by trading for Brandin Cooks and Stephon Gilmore?

All we can do is talk right now, but if the offensive line can stay healthy, the best five guys are there and can make life a heck of a lot easier on the offense this season.
