The Cowboys still have 1 glaring weakness on offense

Terence Steele

This has been touched on and talked about time and time again, but the Dallas Cowboys seem to have things figured out in terms of what they are doing on defense, and running it back on the offense.

The offense as a whole is not an issue. They ranked first or second in dang near every single stat, and they needed all of it because the defense ranked dead last.

The issue they have that can not be solved and that is the inconstant play of Terence Steele, and he is the one player I am worried about the most on that offensive line.

Tyler Guyton seems to be running away from Nate Thomas in their battle, and it was clear when Thomas struggled in the preseason opener against the Seahawks. The first play on offense, he had a false start.

Spent time watching the offense in the second period and not much really. A back shoulder throw to George Pickens for a good gain. Run game has been OK too. Byron Young gave some fits with the pass rush getting Terence Steele one. Myles Garrett is not practicing.

Is there Any Solution?

Because of the contract that Steele is operating under, I think we are stuck with him until at least 2028 and that hurts to say so much.

He had one good year and, like most times, Jerry Jones ran and gave him a contract that he probably should never have gotten.

He finished 22nd overall in our 32-man comparison with a 63.6 PFF grade. His 70.2 run-blocking grade ranked 16th, which puts him middle of the pack, but that part isn’t the problem.

The pass protection is. Steele’s 54.9 pass-blocking grade ranked 30th out of 32 primary right tackles. Only Arizona’s Jonah Williams at 53.5 and Cleveland’s KT Leveston at 43.3 finished below him.

Steele allowed 52 pressures, six sacks, and nine quarterback hits in 2025.

The only time that I trust him is when the Dallas Cowboys are running the football, his pass protection is so bad that I don’t even pay attention to the rest of the line. Sometimes, it turns into me watching who is blitzing against Steele to see if he can hold up or is getting held from the running back.

In the joint practice against the Rams that did not feature Myles Garrett, he was a guy that struggled very badly, and honestly, I would throw him out there this weekend in the second preseason game against the Cardinals and let him get the first two drives and see how he holds up.

I think we kinda know what Terence Steele is at this point, for better or worse.

Guyton is the one who has a wider range of outcomes.

I just don’t trust him enough to go into the season without him getting any preseason reps. It also did not help that Drew Shelton looked just like a rookie against the Seahawks last week. He is a guy that I thought could play his way into possibly challenging Steele for that starting spot, but he struggled more than I would have liked in his first NFL action.

The one thing that I really like about Steele is that he is dependable, but he has got to get back to his old ways and have the type of year he was having before his injury and even when the Cowboys made the playoffs in 2023 he was not terrible.

He has not missed a game since he had that injury back in 2022, so again, he is dependable, but we will see how things play out this season. I just think he is the weakest link right now, and should not have much room for error.

I am not asking him to be an All-Pro player, or even make the Pro Bowl, but just need him to be a little bit better at pass protection.

Hope he proves me wrong, but I would not be shocked if he does not make it through the year as the starting right tackle.
