Getting back to the Super Bowl has been a topic for the Dallas Cowboys since 1996. According to some sports betting sites, Dallas is among the leading contenders to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LV and the top team in the NFC East.
Sports Betting Dime has the Cowboys with the 6th-best odds in the NFL to win the Super Bowl in 2020. They have the 4th-best odds of team in the NFC behind the 49ers, last year’s NFC Champions, the Saints, and the Buccaneers.
The Chiefs and Ravens are the only AFC team ranked ahead of the Cowboys.
While the Cowboys getting overhyped in the offseason is an annual occurrence, it’s not unreasonable to see them as a top NFC contender in 2020.
Many feel the talent has always been there for Dallas to compete for a championship and it was former Head Coach Jason Garrett and his staff who held the team back. The Cowboys also got close at times during Garrett’s tenure, such as in 2014 and 2016, and suffered crushing 2nd-round playoff losses.
Now Mike McCarthy, who has a Super Bowl win and multiple NFC Championship Game appearances on his resume, has taken over in Dallas. If he can lift the Cowboys to a new level of contention in the NFC then it could be what finally pushes them back to the Super Bowl.
The Cowboys were the dominant team of the 1990s, winning the Super Bowl in 1992, 1993, and 1995 while also reaching the NFC Championship Game in 1994. It’s been well over 20 years now since Dallas saw any of that kind of success.
Will 2020 be the year that they finally get back to at least the conference championship, let alone the Super Bowl? If the oddsmakers are right and their faith in Mike McCarthy is validated, then this could be a special season.
