Yup, I went there with the title, and say all you want about it being a long season, but can you tell me the percentage of making the playoffs when an NFL team starts 0-2?
Since 2020, when the playoff format expanded again — this time from 12 teams to 14 — the percentage of teams that make the postseason after a 0-2 start has stayed at 12.2%.
Read that again for me, the chances of making the playoffs when a team starts the season with two straight losses is 12.2%.
I understand it is crazy to think that this is a must-win, but all the Eagles do is win. The Giants are already 1-0, the Cowboys would have to have some things go their way to win the East, starting 0-2, and even making the wild card gets extremely hard.
Anyway, here are some details about the game on Sunday against the Commanders.
GAME INFO:

The home team always gets 3 points, so the odds are currently saying that the Cowboys are about a little over a point better than the Washington Commanders, and honestly it is hard to tell after the first week of the season.
Expect Better
Listen both sides of the ball clearly have to play better, but this is kinda what I like. The entire offseason, people talked about how Dallas could be this, and it could be that, after the first loss of the year by them, they are being shut down again.
Nobody is off the Rams, Chargers, Broncos or Packers. Nobody gets talked about like Dallas. I hope in the home opener, they score 35 points and win by double digits.
If I am Schotty and the offense, I pull out everything I have, and just do whatever you can on offense, and try and score every single time you have the ball on one play, don’t even sugar coat it.
As for the defense, I would love to just see you force a few punts. The Giants nearly set the NFL record for being almost perfect on 3rd downs. Just get off the field, and I know it might look ugly again because of the way Daniels can move around, but I expect better because I told myself they would be better, and truly thought they would be.
What we saw against the Giants on the defensive side of the ball makes it harder to trust that, though it is the same story as last year, and the question remains, you add a number of players that are better than what you had a year ago, and the defense is still poor?
Is it just coaching at this point, or how does that get fixed. This week is going to tell us a lot about Christian Parker as a defensive coordinator. Can you FIX the problem now that you see the film?
The #Cowboys forced four fumbles and recovered just one.
I am not picking the Cowboys to start 0-2, I just think the offense is going to be better at home and even if the defense does struggle again, being at home, I just expect them to score more points than Washington.
My best bet would be to take over on points, which is at 50.5, and I have Dallas winning this game 32-27.
It will be another high-scoring game, but I am just going to go out on a limb and say Dallas scores a couple more points than the Commanders at home and avoid starting 0-2, but like I noted, if they don’t, you can kiss any type of playoffs goodbye.
