The Dallas Cowboys will take on the Detroit Lions in Week 7 of the 2022 NFL season.
The Cowboys last faced the Lions in the 2019 season, a 35-27 victory for Dallas in Detroit. The Cowboys have won their last four matchups against the Lions, having not lost since 2013. Detroit hasn’t beaten Dallas at AT&T Stadium since 2011.
For the second consecutive season, Jared Goff will play quarterback for Detroit. In his first season as a Lion in 2021, Goff threw for 3,245 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also completed a career-high 67.2 percent of his passes.
Goff will be throwing to receivers like Amon-Ra St. Brown and the newly-acquired duo of D.J. Chark and Jameson Williams. St. Brown recorded 912 receiving yards and five touchdowns during his rookie year last season, while Chark was signed from the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency after playing just four games due to a fractured ankle. Williams was the 12th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Alabama.
At tight end is T.J. Hockenson, who caught four touchdowns in 12 games before a thumb injury ended his season. The Lions will field a running back duo of D’Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams, who combined for 1,218 yards and eight touchdowns last season.
After having his 2021 cut short with a toe injury, center Frank Ragnow returns to anchor the Lions’ offensive line. He’s joined by tackles Taylor Decker and Penei Sewell and guards Jonah Jackson and Halapoulivaati Vaitai. Sewell had an impressive rookie year last season and was selected to the Pro Football Writers Association All-Rookie Team.
Detroit drafted edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson 2nd overall out of Michigan to bolster the defensive line. He’ll join fellow edge rusher Romeo Okwara and defensive tackle Michael Brockers. Brockers recorded 52 tackles and one sack last season, while Okwara missed most of 2021 with an achilles injury.
Alex Anzalone returns as Detroit’s No. 1 linebacker after recording 78 tackles last season. Amani Oruwariye and Jeff Okudah form the Lions’ cornerback duo, joined in the secondary by safeties DeShon Elliott and Tracy Walker III. Oruwariye recorded six interceptions last season, the third most in the NFL at the time of his season-ending thumb injury. Okudah played one game in 2021 before suffering a season-ending achilles injury.
Elliott played six games for the Baltimore Ravens last season before injuring his pectoral muscle, while Walker III recorded six passes defended. He also made a career-high 108 tackles in 2021.
Dan Campbell returns for a second season as Lions head coach after going 3-14 last season. The Cowboys will play Detroit on Sunday, Oct. 23 at noon CT on CBS in Arlington.
