ESPN is currently ranking the top 10 players at every position. Each list is made after speaking with more than 50 executives, coaches, scouts, and players from around the NFL.
Jeremy Fowler recently released a piece naming the top 10 wide receivers heading into the 2020 season. Dallas Cowboys top wideout Amari Cooper came in at 10th on the list (7th in the NFC).
Cooper is coming off of his best season in the NFL in 2019. He set career highs in yards (1,189), touchdowns (8), and yards per catch (15.1). The knock against Cooper from last season was the difference in his play at home vs on the road. In AT&T Stadium, Cooper caught 52 passes and scored five touchdowns. However, on the road, he caught a pedestrian 27 passes which included a three-yard performance on just one reception in Week 6 vs the New York Jets and being blanked from the stat sheet against the New England Patriots in Week 12.
Nonetheless, Cooper has been extremely productive since joining the Cowboys. In 25 games, he’s compiled 132 receptions for 1,914 yards and 14 touchdowns. In March, Cooper was rewarded with a five-year, $100 million dollar extension to stay in Dallas.
With an emerging Michael Gallup who had a career year with 1,107 yards last season and the addition of rookie CeeDee Lamb, Cooper could see a lot more one-on-one opportunities in 2020.
Last month, CBS Sports ranked the top 10 wide receivers for 2020 and Cooper was 6th on the list.
Cooper may not be anyone’s first choice when it comes to the wide receiver position but he’s one of the most productive and will once again be an important part of what the Cowboys do offensively this season.
