Cowboys workout 4 more UFL players on Tuesday

No team has been more aggressive looking at UFL players than the Dallas Cowboys.

As you all should know by now, they have already signed two of them this offseason. On Tuesday, with training camp about a month away, they worked out four more players from that league.

Those four players were: Birmingham Stallions DE Jonathan Garvin, San Antonio Brahmas DE Wyatt Ray, D.C. Defenders DE Derick Roberson, and San Antonio Brahmas RB John Lovett.

Who Are They?

Well, I had to dive into each of them a little bit before writing this, but Garvin was selected in the 7th round of the 2020 NFL draft by the Green Bay Packers, he played three seasons with them.

His UFL team the Stallions won the title, and he provided 19 tackles, one for loss, 3.5 sacks, and two pass breakups. He also forced two fumbles.

Roberson was second in sacks with 4.5 for the Defenders. He totaled 31 tackles, four for loss, and forced two fumbles in nine games.

Lovett the running back finished fourth in the league with 422 yards and scored five times in eight games.

Ray finished top five in the UFL in sacks with 5.5. He had 24 tackles, six of which came for a loss.

Garvin previously played for the Green Bay Packers, Ray had stints with eight different NFL teams, Roberson spent three seasons with the Tennessee Titans, and Lovett was a member of the Panthers practice squad.

So like the others, they had their first chance in the NFL, but it did not work out, so they showed everyone in the UFL what they could do, and at least for now is getting them a second chance for a workout.

Will They Sign Any?

I find it odd that they did not bring in one defensive tackle to take a look at, rather just sticking with the edge rushers.

Dallas has already signed Willie Harvey Jr., and Gareon Conley from the UFL this offseason.

They are trying to find a couple more KaVontae Turpins and Brandon Aubrey.

I won’t sit here and say that any of these are going to work out, but from these four that they brought in on Tuesday, maybe go with the guy that brought the most production in the UFL this season.

Seems like Ray and Robinson bring the most value to the team that could use some depth on the defensive line, I would have liked a DT to be on the list, but we have to live with what they are giving us.

We will have to wait and see if they sign any. I don’t see them signing the running back Lovett, they have enough on the roster now for this running back by committee deal, so let’s just stick with that for now.

This Might Be The New Thing

Outside of the NFL Draft, watching the college players, what the Cowboys have done the last few years might be the new thing for them and maybe others at some point.

Would I rather have a proven NFL player who has done great things in this league already signed with Dallas, sure, but the Cowboys have found two guys in Turpin and Aubrey already doing this.

I still think this front office could and should do more, but that is what every fan thinks.

Let’s hope CeeDee Lamb gets signed before training camp so he doesn’t have to miss work with the entire offense, hopefully Micah Parsons will be there regardless.

I am ready for Cowboys football, but not ready for the same result we get every single year, yet here I am counting down the days until kickoff.
