Dallas Cowboys Reach 2 Year Deal with DT Brian Price

The 2018 NFL free agency “tampering” period is officially open, which means little to the Dallas Cowboys when it comes to significantly improving their roster. Instead, the Cowboys have used free agency to add quality depth and fill holes before the draft, doing so today by re-signing 1T DT Brian Price to a two-year deal worth $1.35 million.

Brian Price was added to the Cowboys’ roster just before the regular season, claimed off waivers after being with the Green Bay Packers. With the Packers, Price flashed some disruptive ability at the 1T position – where a void was left in Dallas by the surprising release of Cedric Thornton.

Playing in just eight games before suffering a season-ending knee injury, Price showed enough to return to the Cowboys for 2018 as depth at 1T. The man behind signings like these — Stephen Jones — has already said the Cowboys wouldn’t prioritize drafting a 1T DT in the first round unless they offered the versatility to play 3T.

A rotation of Brian Price, Maliek Collins, Lewis Neal, and a later round draft pick may be what the Cowboys are looking at to strengthen the interior of their defensive line. A decision on the tendering of RFA David Irving should soon follow this Price signing, as Irving could return to start alongside any of these one techniques at the pass rushing three technique spot.
