Cowboys 2017 Mock Draft: Dallas Trades Down With San Francisco 7

Carl Lawson, DE, Auburn

Of course, the mass exodus of veteran defensive backs from the Cowboys accentuated their needs on the back end of their defense, but defensive end still remains a need as well.

Auburn’s Carl Lawson is my third-highest rated EDGE rusher in this year’s draft, behind only Myles Garrett and Takkarist McKinley. As you would expect, both Takk and Garrett were off the board by the time the Cowboys were ready to select, but with Carl Lawson sitting right there, I had to pull the trigger.

In my opinion, Lawson can start at right defensive end day one for the Cowboys. His explosive first step, pass rushing moves, and ability to convert speed to power all make him a dangerous edge player at the next level.

  1. I like your selections. I don’t think Adam Shaheen will be available in the 4th. He’ll be a Day 2 pick. I’m not a fan of drafting a RB. I firmly believe we can get what we need from the undrafted ranks. I’d rather use it on other positions.
