The Dallas Cowboys came into the third game of the 2025 season feeling good about themselves. They’d nearly beaten the Eagles to open the season then upended the Giants the next week in overtime.
After Sunday’s 31-14 loss to the Chicago Bears the whole of Cowboys Nation are facing an uncomfortable question.
Are the Dallas Cowboys fraudulent?
The answer is crystal clear. They are absolutely fraudulent.
It starts with the defense, which is atrocious.
And that’s putting it nicely.
The Cowboys’ defense cannot put consistent pressure on the opposing quarterback. Caleb Williams was not sacked and threw four touchdowns on Sunday.
The week before, Russell Wilson torched this defense for 450 yards.
Neither Wilson nor Williams are front-runners for NFL MVP this year.
The Cowboys’ offense is going to have to score 40 points in every game to have a legitimate shot at winning a game.
On Sunday they managed just 14. The Bears’ defense is not the toughest they’ll play this season.
Even if CeeDee Lamb’s injury does not result in significant downtime, Dallas’ offense is not built to score 40 points a game on a consistent basis.
Prescott is not the kind of quarterback that can put the entire team on his back and elevate them when things are going wrong.
Jerry Jones may have said that he believes this team will still make the playoffs. But that won’t happen if they can’t win the games they should be winning.
That murderer’s row waiting for them in the back third of the season could result in six straight losses the way the Cowboys have played in the first sixth of the season.
The good news is that Dallas is 1-2. They really should be 0-3.
Dallas will host the 2-1 Green Bay Packers on Sunday. The Packers will not be in any better humor than the Cowboys after losing to the Cleveland Browns, 13-10.
But they are clearly the better team.
Dallas is going to need a miracle.
By The Numbers
The Cowboys are now 35-26 all-time in the third week of play. They are 18–15 on the road during this week of the season.
Overall, the Cowboys are 16-13 against the Bears with Chicago now 8-7 in the series when playing at Soldier Field.
The Cowboys last win in Chicago came on a Thursday night in December 2014 when Tony Romo out dueled Jay Cutler 41-28.
The final score of 31-14 was the sixth game all-time for the Cowboys to end with that score.
Dallas is just 2-4 in those games.
Day Of The Defense
Maybe there was something in the air on Sunday?
There were blocked field goals, scoop and scores, and Pick Sixes all over the place on Sunday.
But the King Of The Defense award has to go to Minnesota Vikings’ cornerback Isaiah Rodgers. His stat line of three solo tackles with two forced fumbles was solid enough.
But he had an 87-yard interception return for a touchdown in the first quarter.
Rodgers then added a 66-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown, he stripped the ball in the first place, in the second quarter.
It’s the first time in NFL history that any player has forced two fumbles and returned an interception and a fumble for a touchdown in the same game.
On this website at the end of the exhibition games I predicted the Cowboys finish the season at 4-12. Didn’t believe all that Jerry Jones hoopla how dangerous the Cowboys will become when they acquired Pickens. I am still not impressed. This team is a dud!
I went with 6-11 but now I’m seeing 4-13 as a possibility.
