When the Dallas Cowboys play the New Orleans Saints in the Superdome, they won’t be alone. It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that Cowboys Nation traveled to the game. What is undoubtedly surprising is the videos floating around social media. It feels like America’s Team fan base is truly taking over the Saints’ home.
It’s really fun and exciting to see these fans literally pull off a parade in the French Quarter and letting everyone know the Cowboys are present.
If you believe this means nothing for Cowboys’ players, you’re wrong. Just look at DE DeMarcus Lawrence’s response to the viral video. The Cowboys’ defensive end has brought a fire to the team’s defense and getting him hyped is what they need before facing a team like the Saints.
But let’s talk about my favorite part of this whole “takeover” feat. Dallas Cowboys Jerry Jones walking down Bourbon Street with fans surrounding him might be one of the best things I’ve seen from this NFL icon.
Imagine walking next to him in the most emblematic landmark of the city you’re facing on the football field on Sunday Night. Not many NFL owners would do that, if any. Jones is a widely debated personality among fans, but how can you not love this kind of stuff from him? He’s awesome.
Now, let’s get back to reality. I’ve seen many people rumoring about how the Superdome will be packed with Cowboys’ fans to limit the Saints home-field advantage. I have to disagree. The videos are great and the hype only increased because of them. But don’t expect this crowd to be anywhere close to 50-50 when the game kicks off.
We saw something similar in Los Angeles when the Cowboys played the Rams in the 2018-2019 playoffs. Videos of Cowboys Nation swarming the stadium’s entrances but when the game started, the Rams had the advantage. It only makes sense.
This is a big stage for the Saints. I can assure you if Drew Brees was healthy, they’d be the favorite to win this game playing at home. But Brees is out, so this time, they’re the underdogs. They’re coming off a big win against the Seattle Seahawks. And they’re playing in the biggest stage football has to offer: Sunday Night Football versus America’s Team. This crowd is going to be LOUD.
It’ll be a great atmosphere for a great football game. Let’s go Cowboys!
