Cowboys need to find gems late in the 6th round

The Dallas Cowboys will have two picks in the sixth round of the NFL Draft next week. That’s the good news.

The bad news is that both picks fall in the bottom third of the round.

With as many needs this roster has to fill, it becomes more important than ever for the Cowboys to hit on both of these picks.

Last week I mapped out how my three picks would play out for the Cowboys in the first three rounds. Cody Warren has posted his mock of the Cowboys’ draft.

Cowboys should head for the desert for their 3rd round pick

The last two days we’ve looked at two different mocks, focusing on the fourth and fifth rounds.

Today we’ll examine the sixth round. And the featured mock comes from CBS Sports.

You can check out all seven rounds at the link.

For now, here’s the full list of this mock’s sixth round.

They have the Cowboys taking a tight end and an edge player. I just don’t see that happening.

Those are two positions the Cowboys appear to be set at.

But this is Jones Inc. we’re talking about. So maybe CBS is on to something here.

Breaking Down Round 6

  1. Buffalo Bills: Maxen Hook, S, Toledo
  2. Tennessee Titans: Jake Briningstool, TE, Clemson
  3. Cleveland Browns: Carson Vinson, OT, Alabama A&M
  4. Las Vegas Raiders: Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, DL/EDGE, Georgia
  5. Los Angeles Chargers: Connor Colby, OG, Iowa
  6. Jacksonville Jaguars: Nick Nash, WR, San Jose State
  7. Baltimore Ravens: Joshua Gray, OG, Oregon State
  8. New Orleans Saints: Dillon Gabriel, QB, Oregon

We’ll hit pause here for a second.

Dillion Gabriel falling into the sixth round? What are these people smoking over there at CBS Sports these days?

Whatever it is, it appears to be some good stuff if that is your jam.

Me? I don’t see Gabriel being there at 184.

Continuing On

  1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (via mock trade with Steelers): Shemar James, LB, Florida
  2. Los Angeles Rams (via mock trade with Jets): Jack Kiser, LB, Notre Dame
  3. Minnesota Vikings: Jamaree Caldwell, DT, Oregon
  4. Tennessee Titans: Kyle Kennard, EDGE, South Carolina
  5. Indianapolis Colts: Brashard Smith, RB, SMU
  6. Los Angeles Rams: Alijah Huzzie, CB, North Carolina
  7. Denver Broncos: Yahya Black, DT, Iowa
  8. Cleveland Browns: Kyle Monangai, RB, Rutgers
  9. Cincinnati Bengals: Teddye Buchanan, LB, California
  10. Jacksonville Jaguars: Jack Nelson, OL, Wisconsin
  11. Los Angeles Rams: Jay Higgins, LB, Iowa
  12. Detroit Lions: Kyonte Hamilton, DT, Rutgers
  13. Denver Broncos: Ricky White III, WR, UNLV
  14. Green Bay Packers: Efton Chism III, WR, Eastern Washington
  15. Los Angeles Chargers: Trevor Etienne, RB, Georgia

This was another “what are they smoking?” pick.

Who will Dallas miss out on in the draft’s 4th round? 2

Trevor Etienne is another player that isn’t falling to the sixth round. Frankly, I’ll be shocked if he drops into the fifth.

And if he is still on the board when the Cowboys go on the clock in that fifth round his name better be on the card they turn in to the dias.

Here Comes The Cowboys

  1. Cleveland Browns: Rylie Mills, DT, Notre Dame
  2. Los Angeles Rams: Jake Majors, IOL, Texas
  3. Los Angeles Rams: Mello Dotson, CB, Kansas
  4. Baltimore Ravens: Marques Sigle, S, Kansas State
  5. Dallas Cowboys: Tyler Batty, EDGE, BYU

Again, I’m not seeing an edge player as a pick by Dallas. If anything, it will likely be a linebacker, cornerback, or possibly even another receiver.

But not an edge player.

Unless the Cowboys’ War Room is smoking whatever CBS Sports did when they put this mock together.

Continuing on.

  1. Washington Commanders: Kaimon Rucker, EDGE, North Carolina
  2. Buffalo Bills: Elijah Ponder, EDGE, Cal-Poly
  3. New York Jets: Jalin Conyers, TE, Texas Tech
  4. Denver Broncos: O’Donnell Fortune, CB, South Carolina
  5. Los Angeles Chargers: Fadil Diggs, EDGE, Syracuse
  6. Baltimore Ravens: Cody Lindenberg, LB, Minnesota
  7. Dallas Cowboys: Gavin Bartholomew, TE, Pittsburgh

Who? Seriously though, who?

Cowboys need to find gems late in the 6th round 1

Dallas can’t burn a pick on a tight end in this draft. Certainly not for this one.

As with the earlier pick, this needs to be in the defensive backfield or a receiver.

Bartholomew is a UDFA at best.

The Final Five

  1. Baltimore Ravens: Jahvaree Ritzie, DT, North Carolina
  2. Las Vegas Raiders: Kobe Hudson, WR, UCF
  3. Los Angeles Chargers: Robert Longerbeam, CB, Rutgers
  4. Las Vegas Raiders: Jackson Hawes, TE, Georgia Tech
  5. Cleveland Browns: Nick Martin, LB, Oklahoma State

Cowboys need to find gems late in the 6th round 2

I like Martin to go to Dallas at 204 to be honest. That would be a much better pick.

In about 10 days, we’ll know how this round plays out.

Hopefully, the Cowboys’ War Room will not be stocked by the same people that stock CBS Sports.
