We have officially made it to the Dallas Cowboys preseason and, guess what, we have football from now until the first week of February. As a Dallas Cowboys fan and football fan, I am so happy.
With that said, on Saturday, August 15th at 7PM the Dallas Cowboys will take on the Seattle Seahawks.
It is the first preseason game, and a lot of teams do things differently. More information will probably come out as the week goes on, but here on this fine Monday morning, here are my two biggest storylines to pay attention to as of Monday.
Most Starters Won’t Play
I saw this coming a few weeks ago, but most of the Cowboys starters will not play on Saturday night.
“We’re not going to play a lot of our starters during the preseason,” Schottenheimer said early last week.
“There’s something to the young guys playing a little bit, and we do it in the first two games. I think that’s part of it. Usually, you don’t play many of those guys in the third preseason game, but it’s something that we’re very serious about.”
Just dominating Cowboys practices
New defensive coordinator Christian Parker & Downs may just be the two gentlemen who FINALLY turn this underachieving Dallas Defense around.
Schotty said that the coaching staff will divide the roster into four different groups as they start preseason this week.
A, B-plus, B-minus and C.
Each group will determine how many snaps each player gets in each preseason game, with the A-group getting none.
The B-plus group getting 10 to 15 snaps, the B-minus group getting 25 to 35 snaps and the C-group getting unlimited snaps.
As for rookie first-round pick Caleb Downs, it is still undetermined how much, if any, work he will get in the preseason. In comparison to last season, the Cowboys rested 2025 first-round pick Tyler Booker in the opening preseason game before getting him some work in the final two exhibitions.
Looking To Make The Roster
I think the Cowboys have a lot of players who need to make a good showing starting this Saturday if they even want to make the roster.
Now this could change as the week goes along, but guys like Luke Shoonmaker, Sam Howell and Joe Milton, snaps are going to be huge for them.
I think that Brev-Spann Ford has passed Schoon on the depth chart and I would guess that he becomes the TE2 and Luke may not even make the roster.
Howell and Milton have been battling to be the backup to Dak Prescott and I think both will play a half, but not sure who the starter will be just yet.
Others, such as Jonathan Mingo and maybe Malik Davis, also need a good showing as they are slipping on the depth chart based on the others ahead of them having a good training camp thus far.
I think we will know more about who and what to watch for as the week goes on and other news will come out, but it felt good to make a post about a Dallas Cowboys football game that is taking place this week.

verdict for today: tie, again.
Regardless of who plays and for how long, I will be watching, and I will watch until the game is over to make some more posts about who stood out and players that are slipping.
I don’t expect much from this week, but Dallas does have a scrimmage against the Rams tomorrow, so that is something that you should tune into Twitter or Facebook for. It should be a great battle between two offenses that are really good.
This month is going to fly by now that we have something to look forward to each week and September cannot get here fast enough for the start of the regular season.
