Super Bowl LVIII is almost here and the biggest sports media week of the year comes with it.
Dozens of media outlets, big and small, line up to get any tidbit of information from players and coaches participating in the Super Bowl.
However, the camera time isn’t limited to just Chiefs and 49ers players.
Big-name celebrities and superstars from other NFL teams are also in attendance, and most of them were Pro Bowl participants.
One Cowboys player recently made an appearance on the First Take set, a show notorious for hating on everything Dallas.
DeMarcus Lawrence, a 10-year veteran at defensive end for the Cowboys, got some camera time with Stephen A. Smith, Shannon Sharpe, and Joy Taylor.
Lawrence was asked by Sharpe, “You mention how you wish your team was here (Las Vegas). What happened and why your team isn’t here?”.
His response was one that has Cowboys Twitter/X in an uproar since the video was dropped.
“Ummm, in all honestly I think the main thing is we was (were) burnt out, man. Long season…the legs get tired.”
Immediately following that comment, Lawrence gave credit to the Packers for having a good game plan to come in and exploit the Cowboys’ defense.
But the damage was already done.
Cowboys Twitter/X unleashed an assault of comments, opinions, and outrage at Lawrence’s comments.
Hey Tank, we are tired, too.
Tired of the Team Being Unprepared
Lawrence giving credit to the Packers and staff for having a game plan the Cowboys didn’t have an answer for is a recurring theme.
Personally, I’ve experienced every heartbreak since 1996, the last time Dallas even sniffed an NFC Championship Game.
Being unprepared is an excuse that most Cowboys fans like myself have grown tired of hearing.
The Cowboys have made a bad habit of falling short of expectations, but worse, we have grown to expect other teams to be more prepared than ours.
In 2007, the Cowboys were 13-3 and the #1 seed hosting the Giants, who barely made the playoffs the last week of the regular season.
Dallas lost at home that day 21-17 to end a season with the highest expectations since the 1995 Super Bowl winning year.
The general attitude surrounding the team was that they took the lowly Giants for granted and went into the game uninspired and unprepared.
In 2016, Dallas again found themselves as the #1 seed in the conference, hosting the Packers in the NFC Divisional round.
Dallas fell into an early 21-3 hole to Aaron Rodgers that they would get close, but not fully recover from.
Another #1 seed was wasted, and all because the Packers came out and punched the Cowboys in the mouth for an early lead.
Fast forward to the 2021 Wildcard round where the #3 seed Cowboys played host to the #6 seed San Francisco 49ers.
San Francisco would take a 23-7 lead into the 4th quarter on the strength of a stingy defense and power running game.
Dallas would lose 23-17, and those statements about being unprepared would again be brought up.
They weren’t prepared for the physicality of the 49ers and weren’t able to respond in time to come back and win the game.
Now to the most recent letdown versus Green Bay.
We don’t want to hear anything about the team being tired and unprepared in the biggest game of the season.
So respectfully, Tank, save your “tired” comments. You and your teammates cannot be more tired than us fans.
