It’s amazing how the 2023 NFL Draft is already approaching fast. It seems like just a few weeks ago we were watching the preseason games.
Enough about nostalgia though, let us look to the future for the Dallas Cowboys. A team who nearly has the right recipe for a Super Bowl victory.
The Dallas Cowboys have been an elite team over the past two years under Head Coach Mike McCarthy, and while I disagree with McCarthy a lot, it is nice to see the Cowboys visit the playoffs back-to-back years under his watch.
What are the Cowboys missing?
The Wide Receiver Famine:
If you’ve been watching the Cowboys this season, you can definitely see what the problem on offense is. There are no elite receivers for Dak Prescott to throw to. Don’t get me wrong, CeeDee Lamb is an amazing player and definitely deserves high recognition, but that’s about it.
While Michael Gallup and Noah Brown are good, they just don’t have what it takes to get open or gain the trust of Prescott.
Keep an eye on Wide Receiver Jayden Reed from Michigan State and Derius Davis from TCU to be picked up by the Cowboys.
Offensive linemen:
The Cowboys’ offensive line was much better this year than in 2022, but that still doesn’t mean it was perfect. In last year’s draft, the Cowboys picked up Offensive Lineman Tyler Smith in the first round. While he was a great pick, he suffered a preseason injury that made him miss some time.
A right guard would be a great draft pick for the Cowboys heading into the 2023 season.
I would take a look at any linemen at the University of Alabama or Georgia. Those colleges always have huge guys that can make sure no one hurts your quarterback.
cORNERBACKS WITH SPEED:
Defensive players are the least of my worries for the Dallas Cowboys, however, it wouldn’t hurt to grab a good cornerback that can keep up with receivers and challenge their catches.
Cornerback Trevon Diggs is the Cowboys superstar and has been a top-tier cornerback in the NFL for a while now, but someone give that man a hand!
Diggs can’t be all over the field at once. If the Cowboys can acquire a fast cornerback then the defense gets even better.
They already own a great safety whose name is Jayron Kearse. Adding a speedster to the roaster would be a great addition.
Overall, The Cowboys have more to worry about than this year’s draft. I believe they can pick up a few good players that can compete at the NFL level, but the coaching is what really needs to be worked on.
I am eager to see what the Cowboys will decide come Draft day. There are a lot of great wide receivers and linemen that will be up for grabs. I just hope the Cowboys staff can find them.
i was going to read the rest, but after he said ceedee lamb wasnt elite after pretty much landing himself as a top 5 receiver this year and a second pro bowl in just 2 years in the league and at just 23. Stahl is an idiot and i cant read anymore!!!!
if ur paper is looking for help my 16 year old knows more about football than you do and im serious!!!!!
Did I miss something? When did Tyler smith suffer an Injury and miss time?

Ummmm…you just linked an article about Tyron Smith…similar name but not the same player.
You clearly didn’t read past the first paragraph…
I’m referring to the fact that the article above says Tyler Smith missed some time. How many regular season games did he miss? I know he missed two preseason games, but not sure how that’s relevant to how his season went or how we need to address the draft. I think that’s why people are confused.
Obviously, this guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about as Tyler Smith was not hurt, and CeeDee Lamb is an elite player. Not sure how he got on here with an article.

Ceedee is a top 5 WR easily, idk how he could get much better lol, but yes we do need more receivers, Gallup was nowhere to be found in playoff game vs 9ers and we needed him, Brown is decent but he’s more a 3rd or even 4th WR, not a 2, we need a consistent 2 to go along Ceedee, (if only we still had Coop)
The rest I also agree with, can’t have too many O lineman, definitely need some more corners, I’ll add we also need to take a look at some RBs, more towards mid to later rounds, but we do need to get one with Pollard kinda being an unknown with his injury, (hope he’ll bounce back) and to at least get someone so we can move on from Zeke
I understand thinking Ceedee is a step from the elite, but why do we need a right guard? Are you talking about for development? Zack Martin is arguably the best OL in the league, and he plays right guard. If you’re meaning left guard and keep Tyler Smith at LT, then I can get behind that. I’d say to be more clear or expand on your thoughts as your writing progresses. Keep at it.
“They are no elite WRs for QB1 to throw to”. Really???
This year he had CeeDee (elite), Gallup (very good, and may be elite w/better QB), Brown (he did VERY well with Rush, right), Hilton (good deep threat), not to mention the TEs, TP, EE, etc.
Last year he had; Amari Cooper, Cee Dee Lamb, Michael Gallup, Ced Wilson, Noah Brown, etc.
Serious question Tony, WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THAT WR GROUP. IMO, it was one of the best WR GROUPS in the league.
Going back to All Pro Dez and Witten (not to mention the best RB in the league), up to now, it’s never going to be enough with this guy. These annual excuses just never end.
Brady won Super Bowls with the likes of WRs Deion Branch, David Givens, Troy Brown, Wes Welker, etc. Any “elites” there Tony???
Real simple, they have a QB problem. Draft a QB, MOVE FORWARD, and start the process already.
Hello Tony! As usual I concur with your opinions on what the Cowboys need this upcoming draft. I want to see us get another running back that’s ready to play on day one. Hopefully Elliott gets released, and the sooner the better. I like Gibbs from Alabama and Robinson from Texas. Both of them will probably be gone by pick 26, but you never know. Who would’ve thought Cee Dee Lamb would fall into our laps so late in the draft? Keep up the great work and enjoy the Super Bowl on Sunday. Let’s Go Chief!!!!!
This is probably the worst article I’ve seen ever!! Ceedee isn’t elite?? Tyler Smith was injured and missed time, your not worried about the defense, and you’d like to see us draft a right guard?? This is crazy!! First Ceedee is just 23 years old and was the only receiver on the team that defenses had to worry about, but he still ended the season with 110 receptions and over 1,300 yards, and he did that by beating double coverage and all!! If that’s not elite, then idk what is!! 2nd, Tyler Smith just tweaked his ankle and missed the last preseason game and that was it, he played in every regular season game without injury!! And if we’re gonna draft a guard, we need to draft a left guard, cause we already have one of the best right guards in the NFL right now with Zack Martin!! So we’re good at right guard!! And you say your not worried about the defense?? The defense had a lot of problems this year, and it’s only gonna get worse with all the free agents we have leaving!! We’re gonna need a NT that can stop the run, we’re gonna need at least one LB, and the biggest need we have right now is the corner position opposite of Diggs!! We have literally nobody to play on that side, and I for one don’t wanna see Joseph or Wright on the field ever again!! So I think corner is our biggest need for the draft, so with that being the biggest need plus the help we’re gonna need at LB and DT, I’d say that’s worth worrying about!! There’s more I’d like to say about this, article, but I’m not gonna waste my time with it anymore!!
