It’s amazing how the 2023 NFL Draft is already approaching fast. It seems like just a few weeks ago we were watching the preseason games.
Enough about nostalgia though, let us look to the future for the Dallas Cowboys. A team who nearly has the right recipe for a Super Bowl victory.
The Dallas Cowboys have been an elite team over the past two years under Head Coach Mike McCarthy, and while I disagree with McCarthy a lot, it is nice to see the Cowboys visit the playoffs back-to-back years under his watch.
What are the Cowboys missing?
The Wide Receiver Famine:
If you’ve been watching the Cowboys this season, you can definitely see what the problem on offense is. There are no elite receivers for Dak Prescott to throw to. Don’t get me wrong, CeeDee Lamb is an amazing player and definitely deserves high recognition, but that’s about it.
While Michael Gallup and Noah Brown are good, they just don’t have what it takes to get open or gain the trust of Prescott.
Keep an eye on Wide Receiver Jayden Reed from Michigan State and Derius Davis from TCU to be picked up by the Cowboys.
Offensive linemen:
The Cowboys’ offensive line was much better this year than in 2022, but that still doesn’t mean it was perfect. In last year’s draft, the Cowboys picked up Offensive Lineman Tyler Smith in the first round. While he was a great pick, he suffered a preseason injury that made him miss some time.
A right guard would be a great draft pick for the Cowboys heading into the 2023 season.
I would take a look at any linemen at the University of Alabama or Georgia. Those colleges always have huge guys that can make sure no one hurts your quarterback.
cORNERBACKS WITH SPEED:
Defensive players are the least of my worries for the Dallas Cowboys, however, it wouldn’t hurt to grab a good cornerback that can keep up with receivers and challenge their catches.
Cornerback Trevon Diggs is the Cowboys superstar and has been a top-tier cornerback in the NFL for a while now, but someone give that man a hand!
Diggs can’t be all over the field at once. If the Cowboys can acquire a fast cornerback then the defense gets even better.
They already own a great safety whose name is Jayron Kearse. Adding a speedster to the roaster would be a great addition.
Overall, The Cowboys have more to worry about than this year’s draft. I believe they can pick up a few good players that can compete at the NFL level, but the coaching is what really needs to be worked on.
I am eager to see what the Cowboys will decide come Draft day. There are a lot of great wide receivers and linemen that will be up for grabs. I just hope the Cowboys staff can find them.
