I had to make this point just to voice some more frustration that I have already done plenty of times, but I really am tired of what Jerry Jones continues to say to the media.
This time it is about the way the defense is ‘trending’. He is clearly not watching the same thing as everyone else, and it is maddening that he will not just own the fact that the team is underperforming this season and it starts with him.
Not only did he talk about the defense, he also said something about how not paying head coaches has no correlation with winning, which is a joke.
Jerry is the only NFL owner in all football who makes a weekly appearance on a radio show just to listen to himself talk.
Two Ridiculous Statements
I am sure you have seen what he has said by now, but the first thing he said was that “There is zero correlation (in the NFL) between how much you pay a coach or how many coaches you have as to winning. There is no correlation. And that’s a random sample of years and all 32 teams involved. So put that in your hopper and smoke it.”
Brian Schottenheimer doesn’t rank among the top-20 coaches in salary for the 2026 season, per Front Office Sports.
The guys that do, though, have hardware to their name. Andy Reid, John Harbaugh, Sean Payton, Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan. Kyle does not have a Super Bowl title like the others, but he has won the NFC twice as a head coach.
Mind you, John Harbaugh has not had his own starting quarterback and yet has the Giants atop of the NFC East with a 4-2 record, but sure, Jerry, keep telling yourself that paying for a coaching staff does not matter.
The guy who is probably going to win the NFC this year, Ben Johnson, was a coach that he could have brought in for an interview last year, but was just fine hiring Schotty, who he could get cheaper, who has been a coach in this league for 25 years and had one interview for a head coaching job. Makes sense, buddy.
@colincowherd argues Jones & the Cowboys are getting what they paid for with Brian Schottenheimer
As for the defensive side of the ball, he really got on there and said after the defense became the first in football to allow 20 points and over 200 yards in ONE quater that he thinks it is as good as they have looked in years.
“It does not call for massive, or not massive, it does not call for very succinct, important changes, because I like the way we’re trending,” Jones said.
“I think it’s as good as we’ve looked any time in the last several years,” Jones added. “But I also know that it’s looking that way with the future in mind that we can get better. And we are getting better.”
All of us fans agree on the same thing, nothing is going to change until he just gets out of the way, but I just don’t understand how this dude can get on the radio and say this thinking that any of this is true.
Anyway, the Cowboys play the Colts this week, and they have been unloading their players left and right, but on the road, the Cowboys will find a way to make them look like they are the best team in football after the Jags just beat them 42-7.
The issue is if and when the Cowboys win this game, Jerry will think all is well in the world, but that will go away real quickly after the 49ers come to town the following week, and they will proceed to beat them by three or four touchdowns, and he will make some other crazy statements as to why that happened.
