You may have forgotten, and I know some of you have, but Randall Cobb, the longtime Green Bay Packers , is now a member of the . He was one of the few free agent signings by the Cowboys, and was brought aboard to replace Cole Beasley in the slot. But, could he actually be more than Beasley's replacement?

Well, if you believe Sanjay Lal, the Dallas Cowboys Wide Receiver Coach, we should expect to see Randall Cobb used a variety of ways in 2019.

“He's smart enough to play every position, so we'll keep him at one position but use multiple formations – put him outside, inside, in the backfield,” said receivers coach Sanjay Lal. “We can put him anywhere, because he is that guy – he is that smart.”

If true, that should come as a breath of fresh air for Cowboys Nation. Everybody, including fans, pretty much knew what Cole Beasley was going to be doing when he was on the field. He was strictly used out of the slot under Offensive Coordinator Scott Linehan and his vanilla offense, but that doesn't sound like it's going to be the case for Randall Cobb.

Using Cobb in a variety of ways should help open up things for all of the other weapons the Dallas Cowboys have at their disposal. I don't know about you, but it's something I'm really excited about seeing influenced into the offense.

I'm not the only one though who seems to be excited about what Randall Cobb can bring to the Dallas Cowboys offense. It really sounds as if is looking forward to having Cobb and his talents as well.

“I mean, honestly, put him in the backfield, put him outside, put him inside, ask him to block, ask him to take a jet sweep,” Prescott said. “I mean, he's got film doing all those things and doing all those things really well. I think if we're not utilizing all of his athleticism and just his versatility, then we're cheating him as a player and we're not getting everything we want as an offense.”

With Prescott pretty much echoing everything WR Coach Sanjay Lal said about Randall Cobb, it really sounds like the Dallas Cowboys have a clear plan in mind for Beasley's replacement. I for one wouldn't pigeonhole him to just an offensive weapon though. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him returning punts as well.

You always want to get the ball in the hands of your playmakers, and Randall Cobb is a versatile weapon who should, and hopefully will, be utilized as such. All we can do pray he can stay healthy this season and hope the Cowboys new OC, , is a better playcaller than his mentor, Scott Linehan.

Do you think Randall Cobb is more than a Cole Beasley replacement?
