We are getting closer to the matchup many Dallas Cowboys fans have been waiting for.
America's Team travels to Levi Stadium for a collision between two top NFC football teams.
The talking points are getting old, and it's time to put the helmet and shoulder pads on to finish this.
Unfortunately, there are a few more days for the anticipation to build up.
On the other hand, the front office's job is a year-round event, and as I type this article, they are looking for ways to improve this roster.
The injury bug bit this Dallas team hard, particularly with Trevon Diggs and, to a lesser degree, some offensive linemen.
Coincidentally, free agents who have played for this team are available now and could fill a need.
What are the chances that any of these three players will reunite with Dallas?
Could Dallas sure up the defensive backfield with this reunion?
You're probably thinking, what in the world is he talking about?
Anthony Brown wasn't anyone to write home about when he was with the team. That's true to a degree. Please give me a little rope to make this argument.
Last season, it felt like a merry-go-round at corner.
Trayvon Mullen and Xavier Rhodes got their shots, and that's after Kelvin Joseph and Nahshon Wright either went down with injuries or weren't up to snuff.
This season, as I stated earlier, we lost Diggs. So far, he has been the extent of the injuries at that position, but we're also hoping that Jourdan Lewis can make it the entire season and the aging Stephon Gilmore.
I'm not trying to be negative; I want to ensure we're overturning every rock. If Brown is fully healthy, and that's a big if, then I wouldn't be entirely against a reunion.
He could play inside and outside.
Dallas would likely choose to go with the youth movement should someone go down with an injury.
As a fan, going through what we went through near the end of last season isn't something I'm subscribing to but signing Brown is probably a long shot.
Is Dallas comfortable going all season with Chuma Edoga as the backup tackle?
Short answer – probably so.
Chuma Edoga currently plays the backup tackle role. Matt Waletzko may have something to say about once he returns from injury.
Nevertheless, Dallas Cowboys Vice President of Player Personnel Will McClay had to peek to see if La'el Collins is worth a look.
Collins recently received medical clearance for the knee injury and teams are beginning to reach out to gauge his interest.

He's gauging interest from several teams and is likely to take free agent visits in the near future.

Dallas is a Super Bowl-caliber team with some loose ends.
Edoga has not set the world on fire, and as far as I'm concerned, Tyron Smith is a game-time decision.
The fact that La'el played some left tackle at LSU is a plus. That's the position flexibility we need in the backup tackle position.
Maybe he has no interest in a reunion with the Cowboys. Jerry may be equally uninterested.
For the record, Collins was a salary cap dump who was designated as a post-June 1 cut. Maybe there was more to the story or that could be the extent of it.
In either case, with injuries happening so often, doubling down on a position with such physicality would be a good idea.
Can Randy Gregory and Jerry Jones makeup to initiate this reunion?
To me, Randy Gregory is going to get the storylines.
Everyone is writing about his reunion with the Dallas Cowboys. However, the edge position is the one unit with abundant talent.
Everything starts and stops with Micah Parsons. Demarcus Lawrence, Dorrance Armstrong, Sam Williams, and Dante Fowler are all impactful players with chokeholds on their roster spot.
The question becomes who is taking a backseat for Randy. I don't have an answer to that.
Dallas also has roster spots with Chauncey Golston, who has been playing well, and Viliami “Junior” Fehoko, who can play some inside/outside.
The thought of reuniting with Gregory sounds excellent, but I need to figure out where he fits.
He could push Fowler out the door, but that's a Dan Quinn guy just coming off his strip sack, leading to a defensive touchdown.
Not to mention, the thought of him holding an offensive lineman on their run play is hard to get past. And yes, I did say he was holding.

As I conclude this story, breaking news from ESPN reported the San Francisco 49ers traded for Gregory by swapping late round 2024 picks.
Go figure. Shouldn't be a huge shocker but he's off the table all the same.
Injuries, contract expectations and various other reasons will probably keep the front office clear of these three players but again, that's just my opinion.
