The Cowboys’ lingering issues have one common denominator

What a horrific loss last night on a short week, and guess what, this team once again was not prepared on either side of the ball, something that we have seen far too often in the short time with Brian Schottneheimer as the head coach.

The sad reality is that this team is led by poor coaching, starting with the head coach, and the guy that we were all tired of saying would work wonders on the defense, Christian Parker.

You watched the game just like I did. Make no mistake about it, this loss is on every single coach and player in that building.

I will sprinkle in the offense and the defense at times during this post, but the problem is, the offense has to be flawless, or they have no chance to beat even the worst teams in the league.

Jerry Jones didn’t go cheap on his stadium, his yacht or this roster. But tonight’s becoming a disaster because Jerry built a discount coaching staff.

They weren’t last night, and once again, with a lead coming out of the break, the defense proceeded to give up an 86-yard touchdown in two plays, and they had three turnovers in the second half, all self-inflected, one fumble and two interceptions because guys can’t simply do their job and catch the ball. This only happens to the Cowboys!

My Main Thoughts

Look, nobody was good last night, and bad games happen, but we have now seen this far too often from a team led by the head coach, and I am officially out on Parker as the defensive coordinator. I mean, talking about it does not even do it justice. You watched the game like I did.

The Dallas Cowboys defense had an 18.8% missed tackle rate against the Buccaneers. That is a 6th percentile performance since 2016 and the 7th worst in a game this season, and not to mention the blown coverage. On 3rd and 21, the Bucs converted for a first down.

The Buccaneers have set season highs in points (24), total yards (352), rush yards (181), TD (3), and first downs (20) today against the Cowboys…in 3 quarters.

This coaching staff is horrible, and the bad contracts that were given to DaRon Bland and Jake Ferguson are once again glaring their ugly head. Those guys make two plays and maybe Dallas ends up on the right side of this one for once.

You need Dak Prescott to be Superman, he was Guy Gardner last night. Lots of blame, he gets it too. The interceptions were not his fault, but the first 3 quarters were not up to standard, not even remotely close.

All of these things are true, but why does this still happen time and time again? Other teams find ways to win these games when they have an off night, while the Cowboys lose them 9 times out of 10. The main reason is that they have a coaching staff that can make adjustments.

Jerry Jones will not pay the price for a head coach that is not someone who will allow him to take control of the football team, and I truly think this is a culture thing, and if you don’t have a good head coach, you better have a great front office that stays out of the way, but the Dallas Cowboys have neither.

Perhaps the most frustrating thing about all of it is, on paper, this is a seemingly good team, and yes, no team will ever have a perfect season again, but this happens every year, this team can’t get out of their own way, and it is coming from EVERYONE.

Most rush yards per game allowed in Dallas Cowboys history:

1. 1960 – 186.8 (inaugural season)
2. 2026 – 168.8 (through 5 games)

I tell myself time and time again that I watched two of my other favorite teams win a championship, the Denver Nuggets and Chicago Cubs, before I got to see the Dallas Cowboys do it, and both of them had some cultural issues in the building and as hard as it is.

I keep telling myself one of these times, these games will start going the Cowboys way all the time, but here we are again.
