When Cowboys fans talk cornerbacks in the 2026 NFL Draft, Avieon Terrell has been forgotten amid the Mansoor Delane and Jermod McCoy hype.
I get it, those two are the hot names right now after their showstopping Pro Days.
Mansoor Delane has stayed high in the rankings, and Jermod McCoy is neck and neck with him after he proved his injury is behind him.
Avieon Terrell is just in a sort of weird limbo, just sitting behind those two in most national rankings.
I think that may put a chip on the shoulder of Terrell and that could pay off big for the team that calls his name on draft night.
The more I look at Avieon Terrell, the more I think to myself that drafting him could be the smartest Dallas Cowboys fit in this cornerback class.
Avieon Terrell Feels Built for What Dallas Needs
The biggest thing for me when it comes to Avieon Terrell is he doesn’t feel like a one-role corner.
I know he can line up outside, slide inside to the slot, help in run support, and still make plays on the ball. He played both outside and in the slot in 2025 while finishing the season with 110 snaps in the slot and 463 lined up outside.
That type of versatility matters for defensive coordinator Christian Parker.
The Cowboys don’t need another corner who can only play outside on the boundary. I would like to see a defender who gives the coaching staff options.
That’s why Avieon Terrell stands out to me. He looks more like a chess piece than a one-trick pony.
Avieon Terrell Brings More Than Just Cover Skills
I love how complete his game feels. He looks like a defender who wants to be involved in everything.
His elite run-defense grade in 2024, and low missed tackle rate against the run goes to show he is willing to get physical.
Avieon Terrell can cover, tackles, attack downhill, and create momentum-changing plays. That’s the type of all-around value the Cowboys need to find to fit what they want to do.
My Avieon Terrell Comps Make the Appeal Easy to See
The present day comparison I feel pretty confident about is Trent McDuffie.
I’m not saying he’s the exact same player, but the play style feels similar. Terrell isn’t the biggest corner, but he plays with quickness, instincts, toughness, and scheme flex.
A past player I like as a comparison is Chris Harris Jr. The same undersized but competitive style stands out to me.
Avieon Terrell is the kind of defender who can play bigger than his frame because he’s smart, aggressive, and technically sound.
I will also give you a wildcard comp. Brent Grimes.
Small frame, twitchy movements, ball awareness, and competitive edge. These things may be more about style than role, but I can see it.
Why Dallas Should Not Overlook Him
I’m under the firm belief that Avieon Terrell doesn’t just feel like a solid cover corner, but like a cornerback who can change possessions.
His length may turn some teams off on him, but I feel like his football IQ and play-making instincts are traits that give him starting potential across multiple systems.
That should get Dallas’ attention because they need guys who can make something happen on defense. They should let him move around, attack, cover in space, and kick him outside when needed.
Mansoor Delane and Jermod McCoy may be getting more attention recently, but if Cowboys fans aren’t talking about Avieon Terrell, they probably should be.
He might be the slightly overlooked corner right now, but he looks like the kind of defender Dallas could end up loving.
