3 Ways Cowboys Can Get Lucky This Offseason

When you look at what the need to do this , you realize they have one of the most difficult situations in the NFL. Their top three are among the best in the upcoming period and all will be asking to get paid as such.

I can't help but thinking that they will need to get lucky here and there to pull it off. Here are three ways I believe that can happen. Call it wishful thinking.

1. Randy Gregory is reinstated

I still believe we're underestimating how much of a need defensive is for the Cowboys. is great, but who's playing on the other ? was dominant in 2019 as he led the NFL in win rate. How much will it cost to re-sign him? After agreeing to an $8M contract last season, you have to assume the price tag will go up after such a tremendous campaign.

With the NFL and the negotiating a new , the league is expected to take a softer stance on use. This could be huge for the Cowboys, who haven't been able to utilize due to a bunch of . If Gregory is reinstated, the might be fine with letting Quinn test the market.

As for Randy Gregory's play? I'm done doubting him after he came back in 2018 and played great football despite having little preparation.

2. Cornerback market remains still

I don't want to even think about the Cowboys' issues at if they don't keep . It's tough to know where his value will land. After all, since became the highest-paid CB in the NFL at $15M per year in 2016, only Xavien Howard passed him with 50 thousand dollars two years later.

Can Jones reset the market? He's been great, despite not producing interceptions. The Cowboys can't let him walk. With a little bit of luck, the market will remain as still as it has been since 2016.

3. Dak Prescott signs a deal before March 10th

I wrote about the Cowboys possibly using the in either or Byron Jones. But the first step to being able to do that is paying . March 10th is the NFL's deadline to use franchise or transition tags. The Cowboys need to make an effort to reach an extension before then to be able to use the tag on any of their other two top free agents.

Keeping the three of them would have this team right in it next season under a new regime. It hasn't been an exaggeration that Dallas has one of the most talented rosters in the NFL. With a little bit of luck, they'll be able to pay them.

#4. . . Justin Herbert falls to #17 (highly unlikely) or someone like NO/Tenn/ NE falls in love with Love and wants to trade up. Dallas lands another 2nd or 3rd (depending on the slots) plus maybe another pick in the 5th or 6th round.

Dallas Trades back and still gets one of their guys, McKinney, Delphit, Penn St DE etc etc and adds value with extra picks.

Sign Dac and Amari..ASAP

Dallas trades up to get Isaiah Simmons PERIOD

Byron Jones is average at best. No idea why it’s worth paying him a lot of dollars. I watch every game and he gets beat on so many important downs and on big plays. A young talented corner can be as effective as Byron Jones – and basically NO INTERCEPTIONS!! Let’s just get real about him!

Cowboys fan

Agreed…. I been saying the same thing!! I think they should let him walk unless he takes a team friendly deal, and sign somebody like Aqib Talib!! Talib is pretty old, but even at his age, he’s still better than Jones is, and he should be a lot cheaper too!!

Charles

I agree 100%!

Q.

let Jones walk, use that money on adraft prospect!

Tony Farthing

Would love to see all three return. We have some overpaid linemen on the OL and DL who can be replaced on the cheap. Neither Dak, Coop or Jones can be replaced on the cheap.

What’s disappointing to me as a fan… we hype-up and groom younger players, only to tear-them-down when it’s time to pay them.

Our salary cap has plenty of room to get these guys focused on contending for Championship. However, this is where the Jones family get to metaphorically engage in this ‘contact sport’. They like to show how tough they are… even when it comes to getting easy deals done. They have to bloody-you-up first.

If the NFL ever considered The Pyrrhic-Victories, the Dallas Dynasty never ended.

randy flores

You dont use money on a draft prospect. That money is already set aside for the draft since the contracts are preplanned.

If the NFL can reinstate Myles Garrett, they should damn well do the same for Randy Gregory. Smoking a little pot, is a far cry from trying to mortally wound someone with your helmet. What’s worse Garrett is now trying to interject racism into the mix. What a dirt bag. Mike Tomlin, to his credit ain’t buying it.

I’m convinced that Goodell hates Jerry Jones guts, and likes to poke him in the eye every chance he gets. If there is any fairness in the process, he should be reinstated before camp starts.

John Lindauer

It’s crazy that Myles Garrett got six games and Randy Gregory got 3 years.

Jean Valjean lives at NFL HQ.

Easttexkid

Lol, that’s funny I don’t care who you are. And, right as rain as well.

hector quinones

You have to pay Quinn. It isn’t logical to rely on someone who has been suspended plenty of times and still is. Hoping the league reinstates and hoping Gregory applies 2018 production with little practice for 2020 as opposed to signing someone who led NFL rush rate in 2019 isn’t logical. Your intelligence is definetely highly questionable sir. (Yes I’m aware it is much cheaper and you specified, ‘get lucky’)…but anything that you defined or specified doesn’t justify to even be lucky bout it. Being lucky is reinstatement and producing as 2019 Robert Quinn. Nuff said.

Marlon Hearne

I’ll let him walk and draft a corner

John Lindauer

Like the Randy Gregory portion.
Let Byron walk. He needs to get paid. Dallas can’t afford him.
Trade next year’s number 1 for #37, #109, #186.
Then Trade up: 164 + 179 for #129

Draft
(CB) Kristian Fulton at #17.
(DT) Neville Gallimore #37
(S) Kyle Dugger at #51.
(CB) Tony Pride at #82.
(WR) KJ Hill at #120.
(TE) Adam Trautman #129
(LB) Shaquille Quarterman #186
(DE) Tipa Galea’i #231

Now you’re sussed:
rebuilt secondary. beefed up d-line. slot receiver. tight end 2. and the new Anthony Hitchens.
