QB Comparison: Dak Prescott vs Trevor Lawrence

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be hosting the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday for what will be a high-stakes game. As previously said in an article about how this could be a dangerous trap game for the Cowboys, there’s quite a bit on the line here for both teams.

Both quarterbacks will have a lot of pressure on them as well for this game. I am very interested to see this matchup between Quarterback Dak Prescott and Trevor Lawrence. I thought it would be fun to compare and contrast the two QBs in several categories.

Leadership:

On one hand, you have a QB that is leading a team to their second consecutive 10+ win season and is considered one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. On the other, you have a very young quarterback who has not nearly the amount of experience as the other and has been told by fans that he is not a good leader. I am talking about Dak in the first sentence of course.

I mean, please, could this man motivate you to take a nap? No, he may be very talented in other areas, but as a leader, he needs a lot more help. As for Dak Prescott, he is someone who has shown a lot more leadership qualities throughout the last two years. While I personally am sometimes hard on him and expect more (like most fans) I still very much believe he is one of the best leaders in the NFL.

Accuracy:

This topic may have some heads turn the other way, Dak Prescott isn’t a very accurate QB. Yes this year he has thrown some dimes and I have noticed those, but overall he has struggled a lot with simple passes on target.

Trevor has a unique passing strategy that never seems to get him in trouble. He is very careful with his throws and seems to pass shorter resulting in a lot of accurate throws. Overall, Trevor has always been an accurate QB, even in college. I think both QBs, are rather similar when it comes to their accuracy.

Decision Making:

Ok, I personally think Dak Prescott is one of the best decision-makers in football. Is he the best? Eh, I’d disagree there, but he is for sure top 5. He rarely throws interceptions and seems to scan all parts of the football field before throwing it.

Trevor is someone who also makes good decisions, but not as well as Dak. I have seen Lawrence make a pass to a double-covered receiver when he has two other receivers who are wide-open or partly in coverage. He still knows a good QB but needs some work when it comes to this subject,

One difference I see between these two is that Dak has a winning mental mindset while Trevor is not. Yes, a bold statement for me to say, but let me back it up. Dak is someone who wants to win. He has winning on his mind 24/7.

When I look at Trevor, I see a kid who is kinda just… there. He is there to play football and throw the ball and that’s it. I don’t see any spark in his eyes or playing style that shouts out “WIN”. That’s just something that I look for when scouting quarterbacks.

Both QBs are rather different, each one has its pros and cons like any other player. This battle will be a very interesting one and I can’t wait to watch it.
