I read something today that I had to take a second look at to make sure that I was not going crazy.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer made some comments on Monday that somehow slipped by me, maybe because I did not want to read anymore about how bad they were.
Yet, he noted that “there’s always reasons to change, and there will be change,” he said Monday following a 44-24 loss in Denver. “I can promise you that. I can show you that. We’ve already had meetings, and we’ve talked about those changes. We’re in the mode right now of where we’ve got kind of a one-game season.”
Too Little Too Late
The Cowboys rank 31st in points allowed and yards surrendered through eight games, behind only the Cincinnati Bengals in both categories. Dallas’ 6.2 yards per play allowed is tied for 32nd with the Bengals and Bears.
What I don’t understand is why are you waiting until now to say you are looking into those changes? This should have been done a month ago, and throw out the Washington Commanders game. This defense did not get better.

The personnel is also the issue, not just Matt Eberflus, but the fact that he is trying to play zone 95% of downs and only rush 4 when you don’t have the guys to do that blows my mind.
I would much rather see this defense get shredded, playing man coverage and trying to get pressure on the QB, make him make a good play, but instead the guys sit back there and can read a book before they have to complete a pass and that is why dudes are running wide open.
The 2025 Dallas Cowboys defense yesterday became one of only 15 teams to allow 250 points and 3,200 yards against them through the first 8 games of their seasons.
Just read that again, do you know how hard it is to give up 250 points and 3,200 yards in 8 games? That means you have allowed 30 points plus every single game. What is even worse is the fact that teams would have to average 400 yards a game to give up 3,200 yards in 8 games.
So, it is time to be real. The offense has to be perfect in order for this football team to win games, and if they are not like yesterday, they will only start to fade.
One trade is not going to make this any better. They need a pass rusher, safety and a linebacker. I don’t think the Cowboys will make a trade and if they do, it will be like the one they did for Jonathan Mingo, a low-end thing that never helps.
Changes? Like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic?
I think your wrong…. First off, I’ll say Eberflus does run zone coverage about 95% of the time, probably more, so your right about that!! But when it comes to the QBs our defense plays, it’s not that they can sit back and read a book because our defensive line don’t get to them fast enough, it’s the exact opposite!! When we play zone coverage, our corners are 5 yards or deeper away from the receiver, giving the receiver too much room to work with, which means the QB don’t have to wait for a receiver to get open, because the receivers are open as soon as the ball is snapped, so the QB can get the ball out before our defensive line can get to the QB!! That’s why our defensive line don’t get to the QB, not because they’re not good enough to get to the QB!! The only problem is that our defensive linemen don’t have the time to get to the QB!! Which means our defensive coordinator is the only problem our defense has!! If he would stop with his stupid zone coverage garbage that he knows doesn’t work, and ran more man coverage, our defense would be fine!! And they proved that against Washington, which is to say that it didn’t take Schotty this long to figure it out, he already knew, and that’s why he made Eberflus run more man coverage against Washington, but apparently Eberflus didn’t understand what he was supposed to do because he went right back to the garbage zone coverage the very next game!! So maybe now Schotty is telling Eberflus to keep running more man coverage in every game so he knows not to switch to zone just because that one game is over!! So hopefully we’ll see more man coverage in every game going forward!!
And as far as trading for other players, I think your wrong there too, we don’t need more than one player to make our defense better, we’re loaded on defense, especially the defensive line!! We mite be able to use another DT since Kenny Clark can’t play the whole game himself, he’s gonna need a backup, and he probably would’ve had one if it wasn’t for these defensive coordinators messing with Mazi!! Mazi would be a good player by now if these stupid defensive coordinators didn’t make him change his weight every year!! There’s no player gonna be able to play their best when they have to lose weight one year, then gain the weight back the next year and then lose the weight again the 3rd year!! Mazi was screwed from the minute he was drafted because of the defensive coordinators!! If he was able to stay at the same weight he was in college from the time he was drafted, he would’ve been a good player by now!! But that got ruined by the weight change every year, plus the change in defensive coordinators every year too!! But anyways, we mite be able to use another run stopper at DT, but I think we’re good with who we have, and we definitely don’t need anymore edge rushers!! We have plenty of good ones already!! And we have plenty of corners, and we’re about to get our rookie back pretty soon too, but if he’s not as good as he’s expected to be then we mite be able to sign another corner, as long as we don’t have to put Trikweze Bridges on the field anymore, we’ll be fine!! And at safety, we’re a little short handed with all the injuries, but we’re good there too because they’ll all return from those injuries soon!! So I think we can get by with who we have there too, especially now that we got our Kentucky do it all defender back on our team!! And as far as LBs go, we’re not too bad there either, and we should be even better when Overshown returns, but I still think we could use another one that can play in coverage!! Somebody like Logan Wilson!! So if we make a trade, we should trade for Logan Wilson, or a LB with the skill set of Logan Wilson, because we have a couple good LBs that are decent against the run and pretty good and blitzing the QB, but we don’t have one that’s good in coverage!! Overshown isn’t too bad at it, but he’s best at the line of scrimmage where he can stop the run and blitz the QB!! So in my opinion, all we need is to trade for a LB that is good in coverage and then make Eberflus run more man coverage and we’ll be good!!
And btw, how are you gonna say that the trade for Mingo was a low end trade and won’t help ever help!? That sounds stupid!! We haven’t even had Mingo a full season yet, and he’s barely played a half a season, and to make it even better, he hasn’t even had the chance to play with Dak yet!! We got him half way through last season, and then he had to learn a whole new playbook, which takes weeks to do, but he tried playing anyways, before he even learned the playbook and when he was playing, he was stuck playing with the no good QBs like Cooper Rush and Trey Lance, so of course he’s not gonna be able to do much!! But this year, he got to go through the offseason program with us, and he got to play in the preseason, where he looked really good I mite add!! The only reason he hasn’t played yet is because he got injured making a great catch in a preseason game!! But now he’s off injured reserve and back on the roster, they’re just waiting for him to get into game shape and then he’ll be on the field helping us!! And if he was able to ball out in the preseason with Joe Milton at QB, then he shouldn’t have a problem doing the same thing with Dak at QB!! Especially now that he’s not the main receiver on the field, he’ll be at least the 3rd receiver, and the defenses will be more worried about Lamb and Pickens, so Mingo will be able to have some really good games if Dak looks his way!! But my whole point is, you can’t judge a player until you can see what he can really do, and we haven’t had Mingo long enough for you to judge him, so you don’t know if he was really a low end trade that won’t help us!! And you won’t know until he gets back on the field for us and gets a chance to prove himself!!
Bad coaching by a Dallas team that does not value coaching. After over 25 years of Jerry hiring bad coaches, Jerry has hired ultimate incompetents. And give Schotty no credit on offense–it is only Dak that makes the primitive offense scheme function. The Boys are always outcoached,
a Dallas Cowboys fan, since the 70’s Brian Schottenheimer you better pack your bags after the 2025 season is over Jerry Jones is going to fire you for not taking the Cowboys to the super bowl but this season the Cowboys won’t get into the playoffs
