The Dallas Cowboys have selected RB Ezekiel Elliott, DT Dontari Poe, and DE Dorance Armstrong as their team captains for today’s game against the Cleveland Browns.
As they’ve done all year, Dallas now names weekly captains for each game. This is a practice that new Head Coach Mike McCarthy brought over with him from Green Bay.
The selection of Elliott may be in response to his poor game last week against the Seahawks. Zeke was held to just 34 yards, partly due to offensive line issues, but was clearly struggling the entire way.
Dallas will also need Dontari Poe to step up this week as they look to slow down Cleveland’s strong rushing attack. It’s also noteworthy that Poe was named a captain given the notoriety he’s received for kneeling before games.
Armstrong may be a backup but has become a regular part of Dallas’ defensive end rotation thanks to his pass-rushing ability. He is still looking to register his first sack of 2020.
