Although he has not been the best the last few seasons, it was not long ago that the Dallas Cowboys dipped into the UFSL, which has now merged to create just the UFL and they found KaVontae Turpin and the best kicker in football, Brandon Aubrey.
The UFL and the USFL (as well as the XFL) were once rival spring football leagues. The two leagues operated independently during 2022 and 2023. In late 2023, the XFL and the USFL agreed to merge. This merger was finalized in early 2024, absorbing surviving teams from both leagues into the newly created UFL.
This Sunday, June 14th, the Defenders will have the opportunity to win their second straight UFL championship after upending the regular-season champion Orlando Storm 28-22. In their first season, the Kings will play for the title after defeating the St. Louis Battlehawks 29-20.
Possible Players?
I am not saying the Cowboys should even do this, nor would they hit a home run like they did a few years ago with Aubrey. All I am saying is maybe they could strike gold again after the title game is over and could look at the player pool.
It won’t hurt to have them come do some offseason stuff and then just cut them whenever the time allows.
Let me first say that I only watched a couple of games and it was when there was no other sports to watch outside of baseball. I had to do a little looking around, and took a peak at the 2026 All-UFL team.
Cowboys need a pass rusher, correct? Well, why not bring in the guy who broke the sack record this year?
Cam Gill from the Louisville Kings had three multi-sack games on his way to setting a new UFL single-season record with 10.0 sacks that equated to -71 yards and also added a league-leading 12 tackles for loss equaling -70 yards.
What will it hurt to bring him in for at least a workout and see what he can do? It does absolutely no harm to the football team, and allows you to see if you can add a guy cheaper since they don’t want to bring Clowely back into the fold for whatever reason.
Whether they match the defense Christian Parker is trying to run or not, all you need this dude is to line up and rush the passer.
One other player they could take a peak at is another 2026 MVP finalist, edge rusher Derick Roberson from the DC Defenders.
He finished the regular season with 7.0 sacks and 9 tackles for loss to anchor one of the league’s most disruptive units.
How about the guy who led the league in tackles, Tae Crowder?
Crowder played for the Birmingham Stallions, who finished the regular season 4-6. Birmingham missed out on the playoffs. Crowder also has a pair of interceptions and a fumble recovery this season.
Crowder last played in the NFL during the 2023 season with the Tennessee Titans. The former 2020 seventh-round draft pick posted a 130-tackle season with the New York Giants in 2021.
Look, I am just throwing names out for Dallas to bring in for a tryout. A few of these guys have already been in contact with other teams, but it does not mean they will sign with them.
Doing something like this will not hurt the team, it could only make them better and yes I understand, the UFL is way down from the NFL, but you bring in any of those players you never know what will happen.
Nobody thought Aubrey would turn into the best kicker in all of football, and although Turpin has declined a bit, has been really good also.
