A Dallas Cowboys football blog

Cowboys are the solid favorites against the New York Giants, but should they be?

The Dallas Cowboys have a Thursday night football game this week against the New York Giants. I wanted to speak about the embarrassing loss to the Baltimore Ravens a bit more, but this team has another football game in two days.

Now, this group, who has looked like a football team that has given up on their head coach, have to try and get ready in a short week.

For a team that looked as bad as they did after a beat down the week before, how are we supposed to think Mike McCarthy is going to have these guys ready to play?

Giants or not, this team looks like they are giving up on the head coach.

Understanding History

History tells us that the Dallas Cowboys should absolutely roll the New York Giants. It’s just the way it is.

A look at recent history certainly justifies the odds makers favoring the Cowboys in this game despite their current two-game losing streak.

Dallas has won the last six meetings, and 13 of the last 14 dating back to 2017.

And in their last two meetings, the Cowboys have blown the Giants out of the water by a combined score of 89-17.

The question is, should the Cowboys be this solid of favorites? The answer is no. You are as good as your record says you are.

I would not put it past the Giants to win this football game. I don’t think they will, but let’s not act surprised if they do.

The Cowboys were +1 road underdogs in their opener and beat the Browns by 16. They were 6.5-point favorites at home over the Saints and lost by 25. On Sunday, Dallas was +1.5 and lost by three. The Cowboys are 1-2 against the spread.

Dak Prescott is 12-2 against the Giants with 27 touchdowns and only eight interceptions. I think he will be fine if they produce like they did in the 4th quarter.

The other side of the ball is the biggest issue I have. They stink.

The Good & The Bad

The only good that will come out of this game is the chance for the Cowboys to get to 2-2 on the year.

They can win this game and look good doing it, but nothing is going to change. They beat up bad teams, and struggle to beat teams that are above average and can run football all over them.

I am not sure if this is a Mike Zimmer problem or a player problem. This team has no fire on the defensive line. Teams run for 4 yards before even being touched! The worst in football.

Maybe the only positive you could take after the first three weeks is that the Cowboys really only need to get to the 50-yard line for a chance at points.

Brandon Aubury has become the best kicker in football, and tied the NFL record yesterday with a yard or two to spare. The problem is the defense doesn’t even give them a chance to stay in the game.

I will take the Cowboys to get to 2-2, which I think they will, but the Steelers will be waiting for them the following week and then the Lions.

Dallas will win this game, but it will be closer than most think. It will be tight until the better offensive players make more plays.

The Cowboys win 23-17, but it won’t be pretty.
