Buckle up tight boys and girls, the Dallas Cowboys roller-coaster ride appears to be set for a full season of thrilling highs and crushing lows.
While the Cowboys have yet to lose two straight games, they also haven’t been able to win two in a row either. And that is why they can’t seem to get above the .500 mark in 2025.
Four times this year, Dallas has had a chance to get over .500 for the first time.
They have failed all four times.
Another streak they kept alive on Sunday is fully on the offense. When the Cowboys are held under 27 points in 2025, they lose.
In all three wins, and the tie against Green Bay, Dallas has scored 37 points or more.
Looking ahead to the final nine games, this is a disturbing trend. Especially for a team that now likely must go 6-3 at the very least to have any hope for a wildcard playoff berth.
He Is Not Him
Joe Milton was in the process of throwing the Cowboys’ lone touchdown of the game when the excuse making for Dak Prescott was already at full throttle.
To be fair, at least they weren’t blaming Prescott’s two picks on his receivers. Kind of hard to when they were both on him.
As the season nears the midway point, Prescott has been mentioned in the MVP race.
But this game in Denver is a prime example of why he won’t win the award in 2025.
Prescott’s best games have come when the Cowboys have got the running game in gear. They didn’t against Denver on Sunday.
When that happens, Prescott is not the type of quarterback that can consistently carry his entire team through sheer force of will.
And that is precisely what an NFL MVP is supposed to be able to do.
Sorry, Dak Defenders, but Prescott is not Him.
By The Numbers
The Broncos now hold a 10-5 series advantage over the Cowboys.
Denver has won the last eight meetings between the two teams and 10 of the last 12 overall.
The last time Dallas beat the Broncos, you ask? 1995 at Texas Stadium after Dallas had beaten Denver in Colorado in 1992.
The Broncos had won the previous two meetings, in 1980 and 1986, both in Denver, where the Broncos now hold a 6-3 advantage over Dallas.
The Cowboys had won the first three meetings. The first in Denver in 1973 and the second in 1977 at Texas Stadium.
The third win came less than a month later when Dallas won Super Bowl XII, 27-10.
In Week 8 games, Dallas is now 36-22 overall, but just 12-12 when on the road. They lost a scheduled game to the 1982 strike and have had seven bye weeks fall on the eighth week.
This was the first Week 8 meeting ever between the two teams.
Scoragami Update
Denver’s 44-24 drubbing of the Cowboys was the second time that a Dallas game has ended in such a score.
The first time was back in Week 10 of the 1968 season. The Cowboys improved to 8-2 with a solid road win over the Redskins in D.C.
Don Meredith was 17-for-27 for 275 yards and two touchdowns and Don Perkins added 103 yards rushing and a touchdown.
Predictions Update
If you go back to August 21st, in the middle of my series of week-by-week picks, you’d find that after seven weeks I had Dallas sitting at 3-4.
I then picked the Broncos to win by 17. I admit, I got fooled by the defense having a great day against Washington and downgraded my pick to a Denver win by 38-31.
