As the NFL continues to roll out its Top 100 Players for the 2018 season, there have been reactions throughout the league. When Cowboys Defensive End DeMarcus Lawrence was listed at #34, he had something to say about it.
Here’s the official announcement of Lawrence’s place on the list.
And a few hours later…
With guys like Ezekiel Elliott, Tyron Smith, and Zack Martin already named before Lawrence, it’s possible that DeMarcus will be the highest-ranked Cowboy in this year’s Top 100. The only other candidate who might be ahead of him is Center Travis Frederick.
In a league where over 1,700 players participate each season, being named the 34th-best player in the entire NFL is nothing to scoff at. It’s an incredible move up the ladder for Lawrence, who before this season was never mentioned among the top defensive players in football.
But with 14.5 sacks in 2017 and still just 26 years old, DeMarcus is now one of the biggest names in the game.
There’s never been a reason to doubt Lawrence’s drive. Injuries have held him back from breaking out sooner, but “Tank” is now a franchise-tagged sack machine with a bright future ahead.
Opposing quarterbacks should hope Dallas and Lawrence reach a long-term deal before this season. The last thing they need is DeMarcus having even more motivation to wreak havoc.
