Having their bye last Sunday, the Cowboys knew they were gaining ground on at least one NFC East rival.
They were hoping to gain ground on two. Unfortunately, the Eagles had other ideas.
Dallas will return to action 1.5 games back of Philadelphia but 1.5 games ahead of Washington.
It wasn't the result they'd hoped for but the Eagles still have a tough schedule ahead. Dallas still needs to take care of business.
DALLAS COWBOYS
While Dallas didn't have an NFL game to prepare for they managed to stay busy.
Micah Parsons started a flame war with several talking heads in the sports media. Judging from the pushback, it seems he was right on target.
Dak Prescott showed up at an ALCS game in Arlington between the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros.
The Astros rallied for the win shortly after Prescott was shown on the big screen.
He was promptly blamed for the loss on social media. The guy just can't win.
The Cowboys (4-2) will host the Rams on Sunday as they get back to work following their bye week.
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
I'll admit I expected the Dolphins to win Sunday night's game.
I'll admit the Eagles defense did a great job containing Miami's offense.
Of course when your defensive back is allowed to grab the receiver by the facemask and throw him to the ground without a penalty flag…
Miami was flagged 10 times during the game and they were legitimate calls. But the Eagles were not flagged once all game.
Yes, one flag was thrown and wiped out on offsetting penalties.
But still, a 10-0 advantage in accepted penalties is all but handing the win to the team that didn't draw a flag.
I'm not the head of officiating at the NFL but I'd love to hear the crew's explanation for the disparity. Especially given there were three or four blown calls that all favored the Eagles.
Philadelphia at 6-1 hits the road to play the Commanders in Washington D.C. The teams met four weeks ago.
The Eagles were lucky to escape with an overtime win.
WASHINGTON COMMANDERS
The Commanders might have got caught looking ahead to this Sunday's rematch with the Eagles.
Washington held the time of possession edge and turnover edge at the end of their game against the Giants. But New York had the only edge that mattered.
The Giants somehow pulled off a 14-7 win over the Commanders.
Sam Howell suddenly finds himself on the hot seat as the team's starting quarterback.
At 3-4, Washington cannot afford to fall even further behind the Eagles. Look for a better effort this Sunday.
NEW YORK GIANTS
Could there be a quarterback controversy brewing in the Big Apple?
Tyrod Taylor has been playing very well in Daniel Jones' absence. He threw two touchdowns in Sunday's win to snap a four-game losing streak for the Giants.
Frankly, based on their play so far, I think New York would be better suited leaving Taylor as their starter even after Jones is cleared to return.
The Giants (2-5) take on the Jets in the battle of New York on Sunday.
