Although Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott have stayed in contact and continue working out at Prescott’s home, it shouldn’t mean anything for Dallas yet.
Prescott has a 55-yard turf field at his house in Texas.
At an event on Wednesday this week, he said Elliott had been part of a workout earlier in the day on that field.
“That’s my best friend,” Prescott said. He says they will continue to work out together, at least until maybe Zeke finds his new home.
Elliott has yet to sign with a team after being released by Dallas on March 15th of this year.
Like myself, I am tired of hearing about Zeke in the news in terms of just working out.
He is doing what he needs to stay ready when his next team calls, but just because he and Prescott are still working out doesn’t mean Zeke is returning.
With the way the Dallas depth chart looks now, if Zeke wants to take a lesser role and be a grind-it-out type of back for less money, sure.
Ronald Jones is the biggest running back the Cowboys have on the roster.
Jones’s best season in the NFL came in 2020 while a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, rushing for 978 yards, 5.1 yards per carry, and seven touchdowns.
It’s not like he can’t be a solid No. 2 back for Dallas, just need someone who doesn’t mind throwing a block once or twice.
Jones is only 25-years old also, which is nice. Five years of experience.
Dallas has no player that can be a blocking running back unless they use a package set, etc.
What’s Next?
Well, not only is Zeke still around for a team to take a chance on, but so are the likes of Davlin Cook, Kareem Hunt, and Leonard Fournette.
I wouldn’t pay what Cook wants, but if Fournette wanted to be a third down and goal line back, who says no?
He could be a great blocker in this offense and pick up tough yards.
Tony Pollard has reportedly been said to be ready for training camp, but I keep saying this.
Mind over matter. It takes time to get fully committed to these injuries.
You have to gain the trust to make all the football moves again. The leg might be 100%, but you are in trouble if your mind doesn’t trust it yet.
We saw it with Michael Gallup last year. You could tell he didn’t want to do anything possible to reinjury that knee.
So with all that said, this Zeke back to Dallas talk can rest for now.
He will probably work out with Prescott and others until he finds a new team.
Training camp starts at the end of July, so if Zeke plans to play this season. It would probably be wise to try and sign with a team by then.
Bottom line is the Dallas Cowboys still need a running back that can help block.
If they don’t add anyone, my guess is that they stick with what they have and hope it works.
A blocking running back? So……a fullback? We have one of those if we decide to keep him.
Patrick Bowhay Patrick, cmon man….. You really want a fullback on the field with this new up-tempo offense. Zero chance a fullback can run routes and catch the ball nearly as effectively as a legitimate bigger running back. Those guys are fullbacks for a reason.
Shane Taylor Oh…so you want someone who can pass block in the backfield on the rare occasions they aren’t running routes..I will just leave this here then..
Patrick Bowhay You know just as well as I do Pollard is no where near the blocker Zeke was. That exactly why Zeke was in on obvious passing downs. Same PPF stuff that folks hate when we bring it up about Dak, don’t do this lmao.
Shane Taylor PFF says differently. Also Pollard is very underrated as a blocker and Zeke is gone. Keeping a player like Zeke to just pass block is a disservice to the team. He wasn’t an effective receiver anymore.
Patrick Bowhay & PPF says Dak is better than 90% of the guys in the league, and I love Dak, but we know that isn’t the case, until he does it.
Shane Taylor This seems to be a math issue. Dak might be better than 90% of the QBs in the league right now. Basically all teams have at least 3 QBs on their current rosters so that’s 96 QBs. If you have Dak top ten then that would work. Now he definitely isn’t better than 90% of the starting NFL QBs but that is different. Also I am not saying Pollard is the second best pass blocking RB in the league but he is definitely better than people think.
He’s done. Get over it. He has made more money then we’ll ever make.
55 yard practice field is too long for Dak to throw passes …! Lol
Tom Rugenstein you’re referring to one of the best deep ball passers in the league?
Keep up the good work! Jerry needs to bring Elliott back.
Elliot, biggest scam to ever wear a Cowboy jersey!
I’ll bet that’s the same thing he said this time last year. It’s not hard to look good with nobody in front of you. Elliot is still a hell of an athlete by layman terms, but he not an elite athlete by any means.
Dak and Zeke need to go! Both overpaid!!
