It is July 29th, I understand that, but what a start to training camp and this team as they get ready for football from now until the end of the year at least.
According to Jane Slater, a team source said that every single player in Oxnard and accounted for, passed their physical and is ready to start training camp strong!
No injuries, no drama, no holdouts to start camp. Now every single media member on Fox and ESPN has no idea what to do with themselves. All it is going to take is for one player to have a bad day, and they will start the show with it. It is only a matter of time.
Every player is also here and accounted for.
Long Way To Go
Let’s start with the good stuff. I was worried about guys like DaRon Bland and Revel Moore and Moore of the cornerback room coming into camp.
Bland had another surgery this offseason, and, yes, he will be limited until the season starts. The fact that he passed this is a good sign at the LEAST.
So, as we see this team enter camp starting today, don’t expect a ton. We will probably see the first team in the offseason and some defense some over the next week or so, but with only a handful of practices, it is going to be more about the guys that are on the brink of not making the roster.
Rookies will be doing a lot more, guys like Nate Thomas and Tyler Guyton who are battling for the starting left tackle spot will probably split reps. These are all things that we should keep an eye on.
Brian Schottenheimer said Tyler Smith will start camp at left guard. But he’ll get some reps at LT. Other players along the OL will move around as well. For now Smith is a starter at LG.
The full outline of the camp looks a little bit like this: according to the Cowboys website, open practices are scheduled for July 29 and 30, Aug. 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 13, 14 and 17.
VIP fan experiences can be purchased on Seatgeek. Sideline access starts at $20. Entrance to the Yaamava Hospitality Deck, with shaded seating along the south sideline, starts at $100 and rises to $150 for weekends and joint practice.
Fan experiences include entrance to the fields 30 minutes early.
Training camp will close with perhaps the biggest day of the team’s preseason in Oxnard, a joint practice with the New Orleans Saints on Aug. 18.
The Cowboys will also visit the Los Angeles Rams for a joint practice in Woodland Hills on Tuesday, Aug. 11.
So, with that said, the news is out there, and I am really hoping that, because of this post and all the others out there about the Cowboys free drama and no issues, nothing bad will happen, but let me be honest, it doesn’t matter what you say or write about, what is going to happen is going to happen.
Let’s get through the first couple of weeks and see how things start to unfold, but let’s take a moment to be happy that, for the first time in a very long time, our fans are worrying about straight football and nothing else.
The other good news is Jerry Jones and Scotty hosted a press conference yesterday and Jerry finally sounded normal and did not say something way out of left field like he normally does.
Of course, he spoke about getting a new deal done with Q Williams, which would be a good idea. He also said the team is not ruling out adding another player via trade and would give up some future capital to help them win now. I mean, I am all for it.
He did say they were going to be playing in the Super Bowl and all this other garbage. It was a solid overall press conference. If you didn’t get a chance to watch, check it out with this link.
A very solid start to the offseason.
