After neglecting to address their defensive tackle situation during the 2018 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys are calling an old-friend in for some help. A source has told respected Cowboys journalist Mike Fisher that defensive tackle Terrell McClain is scheduled to visit the team this week.
Terrell McClain was with the Cowboys from 2014-2016 before leaving to join the Washington Redskins during free agency. Washington has gone all in on drafting interior defensive linemen the past two drafts, however, and decided to shed McClain’s contract a few weeks ago.
Now a free agent once again, McClain was been met with a pretty favorable market to choose from, as both the Dolphins and 49ers have also shown interest in the veteran defensive tackle.
McClain is the last true, productive 1 technique the Cowboys have had on their roster, and bringing him back would provide an immediate boost to the interior of their defense. McClain’s 2016 season with Dallas was very impressive, and it was tough to see him leave in free agency.
Adding McClain to a room that already includes the likes of David Irving and Maliek Collins on the inside could make the Cowboys defensive tackle group dangerous.
The Cowboys might have found their affordable 29 year old option at 1 technique for the upcoming season in Terrell McClain. Hopefully they can get the deal done.
