Opening the lines of communication is just the first step for the Jets and Jamal Adams' representatives. It's still really early in the process, but it does seem to indicate one of the best safeties in the won't be changing his New York address anytime soon. For the Dallas Cowboys, and their fans, this has to be a little disappointing.

The Dallas Cowboys tried and failed to acquire Jamal Adams ahead of the 2019 last year. The king's ransom the New York Jets were asking for was simply too much for the Cowboys. But, there was hope the two teams would reopen the trade discussion this and work out a deal. That's looking a little less likely now.

On the surface, this isn't exactly great news as far as the Dallas Cowboys are concerned. There's no denying Jamal Adams would have been a huge upgrade to the Cowboys , but he's not the only option. There are several safeties who could do the same and then there's always the 2020 .

Now, I wouldn't completely shut the door on the Dallas Cowboys interest in Jamal Adams just yet. Just because his representatives and the New York Jets have opened up talks doesn't mean they can mutually agree upon a deal. There is still a sliver of hope the Cowboys can put a star on Adams' helmet for the and the foreseeable future.

So, as long as Jamal Adams hasn't put ink to paper on a new contract extension the Dallas Cowboys could very much still be in the running for his services. Until that moment, we can't completely shut the door on a trade that would bring Adams to Dallas. Both parties have shown an interest in the other and it's still possible something materializes.

Jamal Adams and his ongoing contract extension talks with the New York Jets will definitely be something to keep an eye. I guess we can add this to the long list of things that will make this Dallas Cowboys offseason one of the more interesting ones. Strap in, because this is getting more and more exciting the further along we go.
