The are currently thin at the position entering their final preseason game. Malik Hooker, Damontae Kazee, and rookie Israel Mukuamu are all on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. As if that wasn't bad enough, Donovan Wilson, who was one of the breakout stars on in 2020, is now dealing with a sore groin.

This isn't unfamiliar territory for Wilson. He missed two games last season with a groin injury. However, he didn't let that stop him from having an excellent season. Wilson amassed 71 tackles, two interceptions, three pass breakups, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and 3.5 sacks in 14 games (10 starts).

The absence of Wilson means more opportunities for veterans Jayron Kearse and Darian Thompson not only in practice but this Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Although he's dealing with this slight setback, many feel Wilson will take his game to a higher level in 2021, and the former Texas A&M Aggie is focused on making that a reality.

“I'm just looking to build off that and put together a better season this year,” Wilson said back in June. “Just work as hard as I can this offseason to make that possible.”

The severity of Wilson's groin injury is unknown which is a little concerning with the season set to kick off in two weeks when the Cowboys take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 9. Hopefully, it isn't too serious and Wilson can continue his progression as a player.
