Shaquille Leonard to Visit Cowboys on Tuesday

After being released by the Colts early last week, it was reported yesterday that Shaquille Leonard would visit the Cowboys on Tuesday.

What perfect timing, as the impact he could bring to the team was touched on yesterday by one of my colleagues at Inside The Star.

Calvin Watkins, who covers the Cowboys for Dallas Morning News, tweeted that a source close to the situation says Shaquille Leonard will visit the Cowboys this week.

Later to find out from Tom Pelissero, that the day he would be at the Star would be Tuesday.. (Tomorrow).

You will hear plenty from someone on our team if a deal gets done.

Don’t let him leave without a contract

If this is 100% true, the moment he walks into that building, I would not let him leave without a contract.

You want to win a Super Bowl this season, Jerry Jones; you do everything to add to this roster.

You didn’t do it at the trade deadline, and although Leonard has not played up to his Pro Bowl standard this season, he doesn’t need to when you add him to this defense.

Leonard requested to go by his middle name, Shaquille, over his first name, Darius, in 2022. He arrived in Indianapolis in 2018 as a second-round draft pick out of South Carolina State.

In 2021, Leonard had eight forced fumbles, four interceptions and 122 tackles.

This season, he only had 65 tackles, zero sacks, and no picks, which is fine.

He doesn’t have to play 100% of the snaps anymore.

Dallas lost Leighton Vander Esch for the year with a neck injury, and after an injury scare from Markquese Bell, he would be awesome to have on the roster.

Dallas still has Rashaan Evans on the roster and saw some action last week.

Yet, Leonard would come in more ‘game ready’ being able to play a bit more than Evans.

Since entering the league in 2018, he is the only player with 15 plus sacks and 10 plus interceptions. That is impressive.

It is hard to say whether he will end up in Dallas because the 10-1 Eagles have also been rumored to be interested.

Cowboys Next Five Games

Adding him would help.

The next five games for the Cowboys are against Seattle, the Eagles, Buffalo, Miami and the Lions.

If the Cowboys can get out of this next stretch before the playoffs with 4 wins and only one loss, I would take it.

They are going to be tested the next few weeks, so they can shut a lot of people up in December.

I think they will.

Philly is just finding ways to win, so winning the NFC East might be tough, but they still have to play the 49ers next week, then come to Dallas and then go on the road to Seattle.

The Seahawks by then could be playing for their playoff lives, and at home could shock them and give the Cowboys a chance if they handle their bussiness.

Regardless of who Dallas has played the last few weeks, you haven’t seen other teams putting them away like Dallas has.

The offense looks better than ever, and so does the defense. Even in the loss to the Eagles they put up nearly 500 yards. They will make those one or two more plays they didn’t then next time.
