Well, we still have today to get through the Dallas Cowboys training camp, but the last two days have been awesome to see, in terms of guys getting after it on both sides of the football.
Before we even get into the rest of this, yes, I understand it is the first couple of days, and it is helmets only, and no pads. I get that! It is still worth noting for a post like this, the good and the bad that we see every single week. That is the point of a blog site, fellas!
Of course, not everything we saw was good this week, but it was more positive than negative and that is always a good sign during the first week of camp, not just for the Cowboys, but for every single team in the league.
Are they the BEST in the NFL right now?!
Young Players
Let me always say that I have tuned in the first three days and have seen everything thus far, so you can find the same clips and info on Twitter or other posts.
Caleb Downs is going to be a Swiss army knife for this football, and he is always showing it for this defense.
On Wednesday, during the first hour or so of camp, Downs did just about everything in three straight plays.
Yes, I understand Downs is not a shocker, but I have to add him to this list.
He started lining up near the edge, in the box, and played deep middle third. They wanted a versatile defensive back, and they plan to use Downs accordingly.
One other player that has looked good outside the pads is second-year running back Jaydon Blue. He thus far has clearly had the upper hand in the backup spot battle behind Javonte Williams.
Donovan Ezeiruaku looked just like this a year ago in camp and then when the pads were put on, he lost a step, so he did indeed look good this week, but I will wait until we can see them with the pads on to start buying into him, but he and Lawrence need to bring the heat being the young guys for the pass rush the rest of camp.
Jaishawn Barham is just going to be a glue guy, he is a solid football player, and he is another name that has drawn attention so far in camp, and he needs to keep it that way with the lack of depth they have.
Outside of these young guys, one dude that caught my eye was DaRon Bland. I have been hard on him and the rest of the corners this summer because I just don’t think they are going to be good enough or maybe even healthy enough as we get closer to the season.
Take a look at the video right below this from Twitter, and he has had no issues on that knee from what has been said and played the ball from Dak Prescott to CeeDee Lamb just about as well as you can.
One thing that I want you to notice about that video above is how every single player near it RUNS to the football. That is a coaching thing, something that Christan Parker has already built into these guys.
Again, it is only July 31st, but if you really take a look at the little things like that, you can tell the changes that he is going to bring to the defense and if they can stay healthy, all they have to be is average at best to even make the playoffs, and then we can go from there.
I like what I have seen so far from the first week, but we have such a long way to go, but good stuff from the first week.
