The Cowboys’ 2nd half yesterday was a sign of life

I know exactly what everyone was thinking when it was halftime of the Cowboys, Texans game yesterday afternoon, because so did I.

I will be up front and honest, I did not expect what we got in the second half of the game yesterday, but the offense led by CeeDee Lamb did find a way to explode and score four of the five times they touched the ball in the second half.

My title is worded a little bit odd, but the reason why I say a sign of life is because, at least they showed that they could walk into halftime and make adjustments, something they have not been able to do in years past against a defense led by DeMeco Ryans (when he was with the 49ers).

Sign Of Life

The Cowboys’ offense was trending toward being laughed at all week long, and then they scored 28 straight points behind CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott connection in the second half against a Texans’ defense that was the best in football the last two years.

Lamb grew up 24 miles from Reliant Stadium in Richmond, Texas. He had attended a game at the home of the Texans, but he had never played there until Sunday.

The Cowboys receiver went off against his hometown team, catching 17 passes for 189 yards, including the game-winning, 12-yard touchdown with 40 seconds remaining.

It is crazy what happens when you get the ball into your best players’ hands, and it is just annoying that it took until the second half to figure out that the weakness of the Texans defense is in the middle of the field, and you have one of the best route runners in all of football.

CeeDee Lamb last three games:

17 REC | 189 YDS | 1 TD
7 REC | 112 YDS | 0 TD
8 REC | 152 YDS | 2 TD

Unreal.

After the finish we saw last week in Rio against the Ravens, the moment that the Texans got the ball back and drove over 90 yards with just over a couple of minutes left, I couldn’t help but think what is it going to take?

As bad as Schotty was at the end of the half by kicking that field goal and gifting the Texans three points, he and the offense got to rewrite the ending of this game, and they made sure they got into the end zone and won the game.

Still, a lot of work needs to be done, and if this team can do what they did in the second half of games, it would be nearly impossible to outscore them regardless of how bad the defense is, and it was a touch better yesterday, but they still have issues.

I don’t care what the record is of the Texans, that second half and final result was a good win for this football team in a game that they normally lose, as we saw last week.

The NFC East is gross so far this season, and even though as bad as the defense looks, the Cowboys look the best out of them all. The Eagles can’t figure out the offense and have lost two straight and the other two teams are without their starting quarterbacks.

Via @NextGenStats: New Cowboys CB Joey Porter Jr. played 24 defensive snaps in his debut, 19 of which were coverage snaps. He was targeted one time and did not allow a reception.

Porter matched up against Texans WR Nico Collins five times and was not targeted.

Jayden Daniels will soon be back, but Dallas beat them in week two, so we will see what happens moving forward. Now the Cowboys have the Bucs on a short week this Thursday at home, and they could be without Baker Mayfield again this week.

The second half that we saw yesterday was about as good as a half we have seen from both sides of the ball in over a year, and that is what is needed if they are going to make the playoffs this season, but in the end it was a good win regardless of what the record says.
