The Dallas Cowboys’ ineptness will lead to a coach that Jerry Jones has been enamored with for years.
This coach has a history with the Cowboys, but it is not as a coach or former player; it is a connection, nonetheless.
As we look back on the past coaches, one area all the former coaches lacked seemed to be discipline. Well, that will not be the case with this hard-nosed genius.
The only problem with this coach is another team has already hired him. However, this may not be an issue if the Jones family wants to dig into their pocketbooks.
The coach is the great Bill Belichick.
Bill Belichick is the Cowboys Number One Target
There is no football fan who does not know Bill Belichick, but just in case, let’s look at his history as a coach.
Bill Belichick has been a coach in the NFL for 49 years, and over the half-century of coaching, he has been a head coach for 29 years.
He has a record as a head coach 302-165-0 and has won six Super Bowls, all with the New England Patriots. He coached the Patriots from 2000 to 2023 and had a 266-121-0 record.
These are a few reasons why Jerry Jones is enamored with Bill Belichick, but would his coaching style mesh with the current roster?
Bill Belichicks Coaching Philosophy
Bill Belichick’s coaching philosophy is based on his father, Steve Belichick, who coached at the United States Naval Academy for 34 years.
Steve had an impressive collection of historical football books, shaping young Bill’s perspective with insights from Knute Rockne, Vince Lombardi, and Walter Camp.
In 2017, Bill Belichick revealed to CNBC that the only sign in the New England Patriots’ locker room is a quote from Sun Tzu’s The Art of War: “Every battle is won before it is fought.”
This quote has greatly influenced Belichick’s coaching style, which he discussed several years ago in an NFL Network appearance. He emphasizes that his philosophy is grounded in Sun Tzu’s teachings.

Bill Belichick is a hard-nosed coach created from his upbringing in a military-style household. This type of discipline and attention to detail is the type of coach the Dallas Cowboys need to get the team over the hump.
The North Carolina Issue
Bill Belichick is the head coach at North Carolina, and his contract includes a $10 million buyout if he leaves before June 1 of this year. This buyout will not deter the Dallas Cowboys or Belichick.
The buyout drops to $1 million after June 1, 2025. This date will not work for Jerry Jones, as he wants his new head coach in the building well before that date.
Belichick was named the coach at the University of North Carolina in early December, but this has not stopped his name from being mentioned when discussing NFL head coach positions.
This man is an NFL coach and has never coached in the college ranks.
Oh, he also has not started hiring staff in North Carolina.
Bill’s Relationship with the Jones Family
Jerry Jones and Bill Belichick are closer than many people realize. This could help move along the process of bringing him in as the next head coach.
“They’re actually close. They’re good friends. They really like and respect each other,” former Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said on NBC’s “Football Night in America”.

As for Jerry Jones’s comments about Bill Belichick, as reported by Jori Epstein, “I know him personally, and I like him,” Jones said. “There’s no doubt in my mind we could work together. None. None.”
Can Jerry Jones put his ego aside to work with one of the greatest coaches in the NFL’s history? The only person who can answer this is Jerry Jones, and the quote above is the closest we will get to an answer.
As for Stephen Jones, he and Bill Belichick worked closely on the NFL’s competition committee, where the two became friends.
So, not only does Belichick have a working relationship with Jerry, but Stephen Jones also has one.
This could bode well for the Cowboys kicking the tires on paying the large buyout for the coach.
The close ties to both Jerry and Stephen Jones will lead to numerous rumors, but where there is smoke there is fire.
If this coaching hire were to happen, it would be one of the biggest coaching hires in the Dallas Cowboys’ history. It could lead to a massive organizational culture change, and it may help Jerry Jones relinquish some power.
Most ridiculous thing I have heard yet. BB is not going to be the Cowboys coach. People need to stop the same repetitious crap they say and think about Dallas and how they do things. 99% of the crap you will read or hear is BS meant to drive clicks and sensationalism, while it has no basis in reality. Put your money on Glenn, with Harris as DC and a young guy Glenn brings in as OC. Bones stays on with special teams. Glenn will fill in a new O line coach and D assistants as well.
While it’s understandable that you engaged with the content, it’s important to consider the implications of the Detroit Lions reaching the Super Bowl. In that scenario, the Cowboys would be unable to communicate with him until February, which could lead to a delay in their coaching search. Therefore, it’s reasonable to infer that the organization may seek alternatives sooner. The familiar adage, “where there’s smoke, there’s fire,” seems to hold some validity in this context.
Actually Cody the Cowboys can talk to any assistant coach still in playoffs(it just has to be virtual). They have 3 hours to talk to those assistants…virtually. a deal could be reached with any number of perspective coaches. I don’t really care to have Belicheat as the Cowboys HC. I don’t care for Prime, either.
I prefer Moore, Salah, Kingsbury, Flores…hell, I wouldn’t mind seeing Al Harris get the HC gig.
Just my humble opinion.
If they cant get B.B., It will be Kellen Moore.Really it will not mattter, because the bank robber Dak is never, ever gonna get us close to a Super Bowl. If Romo or Moore does not get hurt in 2016 , no one would have known who Dakota Rhayne Prescot was.
I 100% agree…which is why I think the Cowboys should trade Dak.
Interesting article and at this point who knows will be named. Would make a big splash and Jerry does like to do that. Most likely not happening but only time will tell.
But this team has a bigger issue ON THE FIELD.
Maybe not totally on topic but should be a real concern to all fans. Looking at the 2024 REGULAR SEASON QBR rankings and saw something very troubling. Cowboy QBs are in the bottom four in the league, down there with Garner Minshew and Will Levis. QB1 is 29th at a 45 grade and QB2 is 30th at a 40 grade. Not sure ANY Head Coach can have success with these kind of results from the MOST IMPORTANT POSITION on the field. Just for reference top four on the list are Allen and Jackson separated by a fraction, 77.5/77.2, then Burrow 74 and Daniels 70. Considering these poor results, Mike did a reasonably good job.
Until this issue gets addressed, which may take years b/c of FO ineptitude, fans could be looking at more mediocrity.
ok so for this to work anymore…lol! jerry hc, charlotte gm, steven dc, jerry jr oc. There, and now the circus can go on infinitum. oh grandson from hp qb.
I enjoyed reading your take on this possibility. Didn’t Jerry have a chance last year to hire Belichick? Bill coached his last game for the Patriots on January 7 and the Cowboys were embarrassed by the Packers during the wildcard weekend a week later. Seems like firing McCarthy then, and hiring Belichick would have been prudent, expedient, and a lot cheaper. The Art of War may be one of Bill’s philosophical bastions of thought, but Cowboy fans familiar with both Jerry’s management decision history and the Art of War are skeptical he has ever read it, much less applied any of its tenets in the last 30 years. Is it possible that Belichick is the only coach that Jerry respects?
You’re right, he did have the opportunity to sign Belichick last year before he went to North Carolina. I think the only reason he wasn’t signed is because Jerry Jones had every intention of resigning Mike McCarthy once the season ended. Mike McCarthy is the one who walked away from the negotiation table on a contract. At least that is what is being reported.
Muppet News Flash: This writer wants clicks. Belichick is not going to coach the Cowboys in 2025. He doesn’t renege on contracts. Watch his arrival press conference at UNC. He’s VERY happy to be there.
May I suggest the following Google search, Jonathan?
Bill Belichick, 2000, NY Jets and NE Patriots.
LOLOLOLOL! Got em!
