Well, at this point in the season, it is time for the Dallas Cowboys to mess with a few things to see what works and what doesn’t, so they can get it figured out for next year.
That said, Cowboys All-Pro offensive lineman, Tyler Smith started Sunday at left tackle, and it has now been announced that he will remain there for the remainder of the 2025 season.
At this point, what is it going to hurt? This team is going to be looking for a lot of answers when September 2026 rolls around.
Changes In 2026?
Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer said post game that Smith will remain the starter at left tackle for the rest of the season, even if Tyler Guyton returns.
He said if Guyton returns, he will be the swing tackle, opening up the possibility of him seeing time at right tackle.
Guyton is a raw talent that had far to many negatives than positives this season before he got hurt.
This offensive line is full of first-round picks.
Guyton, Tyler Booker, two years removed from selecting Smith in 2022. Smith has been a two-time Pro Bowler on the inside at left guard, but he played left tackle as a rookie.
According to Next Gen Stats, Smith was credited with five pressures allowed on 36 pass blocks, but did not give up a sack on Dak Prescott.
“It felt good,” Smith said on moving over one spot. “If you remember back in 2022, I was holding down the ship the whole year,” he said.
The Dallas Cowboys have two first round picks in April’s draft, and the last thing I want them to do is use them on offense.
The defense is more of an issue than anything else, so they have to figure this offensive line situation out, because the offense is at least manageable. The defense, on the other hand, is a train wreck, and both of those first round picks should be used on defenders.
Let’s see how the rest of this season goes, but maybe Tyler Smith will stay at left tackle. If there is one thing I know, though, it is that Terence Steele should hit the road after the season is over.
Shifting Smith to left tackle would fix that, even though his ceiling is much higher at left guard.
Finding a guard is a lot cheaper than finding a new tackle. Moving Smith out wide would remove the need to draft an OT in round one, thus giving the front office the freedom to use both first-round picks on defensive players.
My guess is that the line will look like this next year: LT: Tyler Smith, LG: TJ Bass, C: Cooper Beebe, RG: Tyler Booker and RT: Tyler Guyton.

Tyler can play tackle better than anyone else on the team. Maybe move guyton to right tackle where he was in college and move steele inside
