Waiver claims from the final cutdown day have come and gone and the Cowboys didn’t take any losses. None of their waived talent from yesterday were claimed by other teams, leaving Dallas free to add any of them to the practice squad.
While the Cowboys will likely bring in at least a few from other teams’ cuts, most of their practice squad should be made up of players who were with them during training camp and the preseason.
Two of the biggest names fans may be looking for are QB Will Grier and RB Malik Davis. Many felt they deserved to be on the 53-man roster but at least they will remain with the team and could still be utilized during the season.
None of the players whom the Cowboys waived were claimed by another NFL team. All are now eligible to re-sign to the practice squad. Likewise, the Cowboys did not claim any players.

A couple of waived receivers may join them in Brandon Smith and T.J. Vasher. Both had positive reports this summer but failed to beat out Dennis Houston for the bottom of the WR depth chart.
RB Aaron Shampklin, who shined during Dallas’ preseason win over Seattle, cleared waivers and will now go to injured reserve.
OL Isaac Alarcón also cleared waivers and should return for another year with the Cowboys’ practice squad. He doesn’t count against the 16-man limit thanks to the International Player Pathway Program.
We’ll find out in the coming days who exactly will make up Dallas’ practice squad. Also, expect some news soon on players like Tyron Smith and James Washington being placed on injured reserve and other signings as the Cowboys continue the work of finalizing their roster for Week One.
I was intrigued by Alarcon a couple of years ago. This is my naivete, but if he hasnt “gotten” it by now will he ever?
A reasonable question at this point. But because he doesn’t count against the practice squad numbers with the International Program, what does it hurt?
It was a joke not to make will grier #2 and keep cooper rush.
Grier had every opportunity to take the job but got hurt and then didn’t have a great showing against Seattle. Just wasn’t enough for now, but who says it won’t happen sometime during the year?
Like M Davis and B Smith coming back. Davis showed a nice burst and loved Smith’s toe tap TD and high pointing ability.
Agreed. Good guys to have nearby if needed.
Why would they not sign Alex Leatherwood? First round pick from 2021, still very young , play both Guard and Tackle. I guess that just made too much sense! Making sensible decisions don’t seem to be Jerry and Stephen Jones strong suits. The opportunity to grab a first rounder the very next year after he was drafted! Nothing to lose there!!!!
Obviously You don’t realize how terrible Leatherwood is, just cause a player is drafted in the 1st round doesn’t mean anything, that was just a lousy pick by the Raiders…
rmbr Jamarcus Russell?
Bingo! Who has benefitted from Taco Charlton’s services since he left Dallas?
Not having any of their cuts claimed speaks to a couple of things:
Is DAL the only team valuing these players, and other clubs simply don’t agree in the talents of these guys?
Did the Jones’ properly pick and designate the correct (original) 53 to ensure not losing the cream of the practice squad crop?
Is this club not watching the rest of the league close enough to be able to react much faster to any of the so-called higher profile cuts?
Isn’t it also a fair reflection to use this as proof the team overvalues its own talent as not a single other team took a single player we released?
