The Dallas Cowboys won a game they usually lose for the first time in a long time.
If you’ve been a die-hard fan like myself, you know what I am talking about.
Last Thursday was the type of game that we have seen the Cowboys find a way to lose over the last ten years.
This time, though, they found a way to win a back-and-forth offensive game with no punts, 41-35.
There have been only a handful of games in NFL history when neither team had to punt. This game was one of them.
Defense
Before this win against Seattle, the Cowboys had been winning so much that guys like Dak Prescott and others weren’t even playing in the 4th quarter.
After going ten games without allowing a 300-yard passer, the Dallas defense got beat up by Geno Smith and DK Metcalf.
The defense couldn’t seem to buy a stop all night, and at one point, I thought they might not get one.
DaRon Bland had his worst game of the year but still found a way to make a big play, forcing an interception.
Even after that, the Seahawks still found the end zone, but when the defense needed to step up, they made three key stops in a row that forced the ball back to the offense and then delivered.
Offense
Let’s call it like it is. Yes, the defense got key stops late in the 4th quarter, but the Cowboys won last week because of Dak Prescott and the offense.
The Cowboys’ offense is flying high now; it may be the hottest in football.
They didn’t punt once last week and made every single play when trailing in the 4th to win that football game.
It was a playoff-type feeling.
The Cowboys needed this type of game with how the rest of their schedule shakes out.
They welcome the Eagles to town next Sunday night, then go on the road against Buffalo and Miami, and then home for the Lions.
They must bring this energy and fight on both sides for this next stretch of games.
It was great to see this game go the Cowboy’s way for once, and maybe something has changed with them.
Maybe now we can see stuff go the right way instead of the wrong way.
This type of win is the kind you will need come playoff time.
We have a long way to go in this season with the hardest part of the schedule on deck.
Still, 2014 is really the last time I felt like the Cowboys could step on the field and play and beat anyone, so it has been a awhile since I’ve felt this way.
This was not the way I felt after the 49ers loss, and although I still think they would get beat again if they played, I think it would be one heck of a game now.
Let’s worry about them in the playoffs and take care of the rest of the teams on the schedule, but this gritty win against Seattle is exactly what the doctor ordered as they enter this gauntlet
