I will tell you what the vibes that the Cowboys’ new defensive coordinator is bringing to this team is awesome.
The difference has already shown up so far during training camp, but he also is getting a lot of things that he wants to do his way, which normally under Jerry Jones, just does not happen, if ever.
On Saturday, the full practice was broadcast locally in Dallas and streamed online. “It’s weird,” Parker said on 105.3 The Fan. “Not a fan.”
Most physical practice. Most energy. Best competition.
Defense started off on a heater, offense got its wins too. Would have to give the edge to Christian Parker’s group, but it was a fun day on both sides in Oxnard.
He Has A Point
During his time with the Eagles and Broncos, they used the footage of all this stuff from the team in training camp to help them prepare, so maybe I do agree, can we cut back, just a little bit?
Now this will only work for the first few weeks and then teams will start watching game film from the season, but those first two or three games could be the difference at starting off well and making the playoffs if you have a hiccup later in the season?
“Once you get past Game 3 or 4, everything is on tape,” Parker said on 105.3 The Fan. “When you’re in Week 1 or 2, you’re looking for things. So actually, I don’t know if people realize this, I was following some of our media members and stuff even before I got [to the Cowboys] because when I was in Green Bay and Denver and Philadelphia, I’ve played Dallas in all three spots, us kinda trying to look for things.”
As a fan, I love watching all the videos, both good and bad. Yet, if I was a coach of a team that had as much media as the Cowboys do, then maybe I would be fully on board.
I think the culture is finally right inside the building and I love Parker being able to speak his mind, and it does not cause any issues like things we have seen in the past.
What I like is that Parker understands that other teams and those use this type of stuff against other teams. He is a very smart guy that is running this Cowboys defense now and the fact that they have someone that cares this much is great.
It won’t change anything, but him speaking out is an awesome thing to see.
Nearly everyone from that defense last year is gone, including the coaches.
Like yesterday, the Cowboys and the Rams had a joint practice and all the reporters could do was record individual drills. The entire practice filming was against the Rams policy, so let’s not act like this isn’t a normal thing in the league, because it is. The Cowboys just love the attention that comes with it.
The good news is that the Cowboys’ defense was awesome, and Justin Barron, the linebacker that is battling for the last spot on the roster, had three interceptions. One off Matt Stafford and the other two off Bennett is the backup, but either way, this defense is miles above last year, which I know is not hard to do.
It all means nothing if both sides of the ball don’t produce when it matters, but this is just something good for Dallas because last year, even in practice, the Rams shredded them, and it was ugly. This time around though, the defense with Parker leading the way was great.
I really am trying my best to not buy into the hype during the first week of August, but they looked nothing like this a year ago and we knew it had disaster written all over it, and now things are working the way they should.
