The Dallas Cowboys are still having to weak the roster before their season opener. Today, they re-signed Guard Kadeem Edwards and placed recently-acquired Parker Ehinger on injured reserve.
Edwards made it through final cuts last Saturday, but was released earlier this week to make room for Center Adam Redmond. Redmond was added to provide depth while Travis Frederick is out and Joe Looney is starting.
Dallas was hoping that Parker Ehinger, who they traded Cornerback Charvarius Ward to the Chiefs for last week, would be their backup guard. But the former fourth-round pick hurt got hurt in practice this week and now moves to IR for the time being.
The Cowboys worked out Xavier Su’a-Filo yesterday, who had 41 starts in four seasons with the Texans, but for now have brought back Edwards. Given the short turnaround time to Sunday’s game, they may just be going with Kadeem for system familiarity now while looking for an upgrade soon.
Since he’s going to IR after the start of the season, Ehinger could be brought back after Week 8. Right now, Noah Brown is the only other player Dallas has on IR who is eligible for a mid-season return. They are allowed to bring back two players after last year’s rule change.
Ideally, Zack Martin and Connor Williams will be taking all the snaps at guard this year. No offense to Mr. Edwards, but I hope we never see him on the field.
