The Cowboys have a lot of talent, both young and veterans, and some who just haven’t found their groove just yet.
As we roll in the 2023 season, the Cowboys will need a guy on both sides of the ball to have a breakout type year to help them succeed.
Now, obviously, not every player I add will breakout next year, but they each have a chance to do so.
Tyler Smith
Tyler Smith has every chance to great in this league. If the Cowboys stop messing with his position on the line and just let him get comfortable, then yes he could breakout in 2023.
He is clearly one the best five offensive lineman Dallas has on the roster. He is a great run blocker and for as big as he is, man is he athletic .
Being healthy and staying on the field comes first, and if not only Smith can do that, but the rest of the line for a good part of the year can, Smith could very easily have a breakout year for the boys.
Sam Williams
Onto the defensive side of the ball. This one is easy. Sam Williams has everything you need to be an elite pass rusher in this league.
In his rookie season with Dallas, Williams registered four sacks, three fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble.
He had 15 tackles. Let me also remind you, he did all of this WITHOUT starting a single game in 2022.
The Cowboys are loaded with edge rushers, I fully expect Williams to make a huge jump in year two after a second full year with Dan Quinn.
Jake Ferguson
The Cowboys have a wide open tight end room right now. Dalton Schultz signed a one-year deal with the Texans this offseason, so the Cowboys are rolling with three for the price of one.
Ferguson is the only guy I have seen enough of that I trust for right now. The others will grow on me, but Ferguson should have the chance to start the season as tight end No. 1.
He committed to Tight End University that is held by Travis Kelce and George Kittle, he should grow in 2023, giving him a chance to breakout.
With all that said, it might be harder for Ferguson. Dallas also picked Michigan tight end Luke Schoonmaker. I feel like the team may play the hot hand every week at tight end, depending on the game plan at hand.
I would add a guy like DaRon Bland, but feel like he kinda already had his moment to breakout, and pretty much did.
He had five interceptions last season, so can you really breakout much better than he did a season ago?
All three of these players have a chance to help the Cowboys win some games in 2023. I think Williams and Smith are the two likeliest to breakout.
The Cowboys have everything right in front of them to have another 12-win season this year, let’s hope everyone can stay healthy and on the field for it to happen.
