When the clock reads 3:25 p.m. CT today, the Dallas Cowboys (12-4) will battle the Washington Commanders (7-8-1) in their 2022 season finale. If the Cowboys win, they would finish the year with 13 wins, which would be their most regular season wins since 2016.
They went 13-3 in 2016 and haven't reached 13 or more wins since then.
Other implications surrounding this game are that the Cowboys could potentially win the NFC East if they beat the Commanders and the New York Giants beat the Philadelphia Eagles.
While it would have been easier to know the Cowboys' fate if the Giants and Eagles played earlier, we likely won't know who wins the NFC East until both games are over.
Obviously, if the Eagles and Giants game gets out of hand, we will have a more evident answer on the Cowboys' fate.
However, the Cowboys would still need to take care of business and beat the Commanders, who have nothing on the line to play for but likely would love to spoil the team's chances at winning the NFC East and moving up in seeding.
On paper, this game should be a walk in the park for the ‘Boys, as the Commanders have several players out with injuries and are starting rookie QB, Sam Howell.
But for a good chunk of the season, we have seen the team bow down to inferior opponents, so it wouldn't surprise me if this game is close.
Nonetheless, if the Cowboys can jump on the Commanders early, it could serve as a “mini-rest week” for the starters.
They will likely have to prepare for a Wild Card game next week if they don't somehow rise to the number one seed. It's still possible!
