Who will Emerge as the Cowboys Best Player Next Season?

With many moving parts in the off-season, the question remains, who will be the best player next season?

There is a handful to choose from, but one guy stands out for me more than the rest. We all know injuries happen, and it’s a part of the game, but I believe next season, the best player for the Cowboys is going to be Ezekiel Elliott.

He looks incredible this off-season, and many say he is running faster currently than before he wore a Cowboys uniform. I will pump the breaks on the pre-Cowboy talk until week one against the Tampa-Bay Buccaneers rolls around.

The Cowboys will win football games next season, no doubt about it. They will do that by getting back to what they do best, running the football, and opening up the play-action pass for Dak Prescott, and Elliott is going to play a factor in that.

We can talk about his contact until the sun goes down, but at the end of the day, it’s his responsibility to at least attempt to get people to stop talking about it all the time.

The way they use Tony Pollard this year will help, but the crowd that says he should be the no.1 on the depth chart isn’t thinking about the amount of tear it would put on his body. Elliott has been through that and more.

I say Elliott will be the best player on the roster next season. If he isn’t and continues to drop production, 2022 could be his last season with the Cowboys. He has done what he needed to do and get into great shape, which made him successful before. Only time will tell if his body can continue to handle the number of carries.

With that in mind, I still would not rule out a guy like Prescott, Pollard, or even Micah Parsons to have a better overall year than Elliott.

Elliott our best player? Stop it. And most every year we have to hear “best shape ever”.

Elliott has been average since 2017.
Running backs excell or not based on quickness and Elliott lost that lateral quickness years ago. Last season, apologists for Elliott said he was best shape as he lost weight . Elliott is a very good blocker. But, he cannot be dependable even to get 2 yards on 3rd and 2.
If Elliott is the best player, then lots of guys must be on IR.

People expect Elliott to run the ball with bad blocking. All good backs gain yardage with a decent front line. Elliott has continued to produce 1000 yard years even with poor blocking and injuries. But yet fans continue to question his ability to run the ball. Elliott makes the defense pay attention to the run. Let the defense ignore Elliott and you will see what he can do.

On defense, Parsons. On offense, Martin. Sleeper, Pollard.
