Cowboys Draft Michigan DT Mazi Smith w/ 2023 1st-Round Pick
30. Philadelphia Eagles – DT Mazi Smith, Michigan Syndication Detroit Free Press

The Dallas Cowboys have selected Defensive Tackle Mazi Smith from the University of Michigan with their 1st-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Cowboys added another weapon for Dan Quinn to use on a loaded defense for Dallas.

At 6-foot-3, 323 pounds, Smith can plug a hole.

The biggest weakness of the Dallas defense for the last few years has been the ability to stop the run.

After the Buffalo Bills traded up one pick ahead of Dallas to take Dalton Kincaid, it left them with just a few players on their big board.

I don’t know a ton about him, but from the looks of things, Micah Parsons sure does like him…

He may be able to step right in a help a glaring weakness on defense.

The Cowboys took Taco Charlton last year in the 2nd round. AKA Kelvin Joseph!!!! Mazi Smith can actually play.

It’s a bunch of Cowboys fans that don’t watch film and don’t understand improving the team vs winning the draft. We filled a need and hopefully improved the roster.

I believe we absolutely improved the Defensive Line! In my opinion, this was a solid pick!!!!

Why do you reach for a DT when there are players with top 15 grades on the board that can help the team just as much.

Did u read what I said? Teams literally were saying..if you want to beat Dallas all you have to do is run at them…that’s a problem. We addressed it.. therefore we are better

Heath Erwin Well…..they don’t go by other people’s top 15. They rate their own top 15 just like every other team. I don’t think they had anyone ranked that much higher than Mazi left on their board…so they probably didn’t see it as any kind of reach. Also….almost every outlet you can read or look at put Mazi as a 1st-2nd prospect. The bottom of the first round is good for a very athletic prospect with a lot of upside.

Offense wanted a tight end, defense wanted more ol. Defense coach won

I like the pick. 6’3″ 337 but moves like a lighter guy, great strength and good quickness to beat blockers to fill gaps, 42 tackles as senior, can take on doubles, pursues across the field, crazy 6.95 three cone, 22 benches at 325 (not 225). 4.9/40. Maybe a tad early but definitely fills a need.

Correction: 48 tackles as a senior plus he’s only 21.

Hello Shane! I’m happy with the Mazi Smith pick. Can see him starting at defensive tackle on opening day. Quinton Bohannon better get in touch with a moving company. Was happy to see my guy Jack Campbell go in the first round. Was hopeful the Cowboys could get him in the 2nd or 3rd round. That kid’s going to be a very good player. Well it’s on to the second round! Hopefully we get a big guard that can start along side Tyler Smith on the left side of the O-Line.

Craig Peacock That TE is STILL available! No one picked him! Just wait a bit, will ya? I love the DT pick. Stopping the run was our only weakness on defense last year.

`This pick is to force Jalen Hurts wide. Could have been probably done later and cheaper in the draft but who knows. Cowboys have several issues and they may have fixed one.

Craig Peacock no rookie TE ever comes in and makes a difference. I’m happy they didn’t take a TE
