Cowboys extend WR CeeDee Lamb 4 years, $100-mil guaranteed

Finally, the wait is over, the Dallas Cowboys and CeeDee Lamb have agreed to a four-year, $136 million dollar extension, NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Monday afternoon.

Lamb will make the second-highest annual salary at $34 million per year, coming in right behind Vikings star wide receiver Justin Jefferson.

He was away from the team all summer while he waited for his money.

He finally got it, and now all Cowboys fans can look forward to the first game of the season against the Cleveland Browns on September 8th.

Let’s Take a Breath, Finally

I never questioned whether this deal would get done. I was only worried that they Cowboys would wait until the middle of next week to get ink on paper.

Getting the deal done now will allow Lamb to rejoin the team and have over a week to prepare for the start of the season.

This is a win.

I would have loved to see him there a month ago, but I am just happy they finally got the deal done.

After the injuries to DaRon Bland and Sam Williams, maybe Lamb staying away was a good thing. If this offense didn’t have Lamb, they wouldn’t scare anybody.

I think the number of years is what the two sides might have been stuck on. With so many random reports out there, it’s hard to say what the issue was, exactly.

CeeDee Lamb Earned This Payday

Lamb was a 2023 First-Team All-Pro who led the NFL in targets (181) and receptions (135) last year. He finished second in the league in receiving yards (1,749) and receiving touchdowns (12).

With how great the Cowboys wide receivers have been throughout their history, just last season, Lamb set the Dallas Cowboys record for catches and receiving yards in a single season.

The previous records belonged to Hall of Famer Michael Irvin, who set them in 1995, so Irvin’s record stood for nearly 30 years.

That is how good Lamb was a season ago.

The Cowboys can now go into this season without any major distractions. Yes, Dak Prescott and Micah Parsons are going to want new deals, but Dak is there. Micah is there. They don’t have to worry about them just yet.

Mike McCarthy is coaching for his career in 2024, and without CeeDee Lamb in the building it was going to be nearly impossible for them to win many games.
