Well, just like that, we are at the end of May and next week we will already be in the month of June and the Dallas Cowboys, by their standards, have been drama free and I love to see it.
Still, this summer a lot will still be figured out by us fans but by the members that run the football team.
These are all things we have heard before, but now that mandatory OTAs start in a week.
Organized team activities are voluntary spring practices where the NFL teams hold workouts, classroom sessions and non-contact drills. While OTAs themselves are strictly optional, teams usually schedule a single 3-day mandatory minicamp during this period, which Dallas has done, and all veterans must attend.
What To Watch
Now these are the things that I will be most tuned into, so that doesn’t mean you the reader & I will share the same thing and that is fine, but my first is if and when George Pickens will show up to camp.
Pickens signed his tender and there are no plans for the Dallas Cowboys to trade him, they have made that very clear.
Now, it has been reported that he and Dak Prescott are working out, and we have seen that he and CeeDee Lamb have become really good friends by all the photos and trips that they took together during the offseason.
I won’t sit here and try and guess as to when he will enter camp or whatever else, but he is not getting traded, and he will be in the building at some point, and this offense will be just fine like they were a year ago if they can figure out part of the offensive line issues.
The next thing I will be watching is how this defense shapes out. It is brand new, led by Christian Parker, and they have so many new bodies that should help.
Dallas has six projected new starters as well as a first full offseason of Quinnen Williams on the roster. One of those new starters is safety Caleb Downs, the 11th pick of the draft, and his rapid development is one of the keys to Dallas’ defense this season.
Parker is a first-time coordinator and implementing his scheme will be a big story of the offseason.
I really do think this defense can be at least average this season, and honestly, with the offense that they have, that is all they need them to be is average.
The last thing I am going to be watching is a UDFA and a guy that I think is going to make the team and be TE2 on the roster. Michael Trigg from Baylor, is a stud and, like most undrafted guys, has issues off the field, but nothing major.
Trigg played for USC and Ole Miss before finally hitting his stride with Baylor. In 2025, he recorded 694 yards and six touchdowns on 50 receptions. He boasts a massive catch radius.
He has since come out and said Dallas has nothing to worry about and if he makes the team, Dallas is going to have a really solid one-two punch at tight end. He struggles as a blocker, but they have Brev Spann-Ford for that, so I am fine with it.
I think Trigg battles Luke Schoonmaker, takes his job and will end up being cut.
@1053SS and @BobbyBeltTX discuss the Cowboys’ gamble on Trigg and Joseph Hoyt’s write-up on the player⤵️
Plenty of other things to watch this summer, and I am sure Jerry Jones will make sure some drama starts up, but for now, this has been one of the best offseasons I think he has had in my lifetime, just straight football, and it feels nice for a change, but I am not holding my breathe.
